Why? Because you’re only making that decision more expensive. In my opinion, the Chiefs should explore a full restructure for Creed Humphrey and a partial restructure for Trey Smith. Get yourself to about $20 million in cap space. That would give you enough money to roster the 2026 NFL Draft class at $10.4 million, plus some extra funds for flexibility to add to the roster before and during the season.

Restructuring isn’t the only way to create space, though. The Chiefs could still consider releasing some players for salary cap relief.

Chiefs’ 2026 cut candidates with savings and dead money details

Clark Hunt doesn’t like dead money. Gray is coming off of what was perhaps his worst season in Kansas City, so they’ve got a bit of leverage there.

There are not many extension candidates on the Chiefs’ 90-man roster who would yield substantial savings. The 2023 NFL Draft class is in limbo with Felix Anudike-Uzomah, Rashee Rice, and others needing to prove themselves. Jaylon Moore has some upside, but I’m not sure the Chiefs can say with confidence right now that he’s the right tackle of the future. There’s always potential for a new deal for Mahomes, but that probably won’t happen until they see a return to action from his knee injury. With that in mind, restructuring and cuts are probably the best options to free up space for Kansas City.

Kansas City Chiefs GM Brett Veach still has some work to do regarding their salary cap space for…

[2063
4955,4220,40287,346,2025,7738,258,2893,7,303,11587,3503,118,110,2438,2437,5408,14887,6,2887,7626,499,7722,32197,4000,7238,4223,1216
post-897483","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-kansas-city-chiefs","tag-2026-nfl-draft","tag-brett-veach","tag-chamarri-conner","tag-chiefs","tag-chris-jones","tag-creed-humphrey","tag-denver-broncos","tag-drue-tranquill","tag-football","tag-george-karlaftis","tag-jawaan-taylor","tag-jaylon-moore","tag-kansas-city","tag-kansas-city-chiefs","tag-kansascity","tag-kansascitychiefs","tag-kristian-fulton","tag-mike-danna","tag-nfl","tag-nick-bolton","tag-noah-gray","tag-patrick-mahomes","tag-peter-woods","tag-r-mason-thomas","tag-rashee-rice","tag-salary-cap","tag-trent-mcduffie","tag-trey-smith
["GET
