NFC East: Giants\u2019 Culture Shift Under HC John Harbaugh. That said, the Giants made the biggest splash in the head coaching carousel. They hired John Harbaugh after the Baltimore Ravens<\/a> relieved him of his duties. Harbaugh brings a decorated resume with him to New York<\/a>. On his watch, the Ravens won a Super Bowl and six division titles. He only had three losing seasons in 18 years with the club.<\/p>\n

Other than being a perennial contender, the Ravens also had an identity rooted in toughness and physicality under Harbaugh. If he instills that mentality into the Giants, Big Blue could see a quick turnaround. When you consider the rugged play style of quarterback Jaxson Dart<\/a> and running back Cam Skattebo<\/a> and the addition of rookie first-round offensive lineman\u00a0Francis Mauigoa, the Giants could field one of the most physically imposing offenses this year. Dart expects the Giants to be a\u00a0run-first team, a sign of Harbaugh\u2019s influence.<\/p>\n

Kayvon Thibodeaux<\/a>, New York Giants\u00a0\u00b7\u00a0OLB \u00b7 Age 25. Those who treated draft evaluators\u2019 projections like gospel believed Thibodeaux was on the trade block as soon as Roger Goodell called\u00a0Arvell Reese\u2019s name in the Giants\u2019 slot at No. 5 overall. A month later, that same group might be feeling foolish.<\/p>\n

Reese isn\u2019t being boxed into a pure edge-rusher role in New York, at least not now, which is the best way to maximize his raw, athletic skill set as he makes the leap to the NFL. It\u2019s also the best outcome for Thibodeaux, a former No. 5 overall pick himself, but one whose existence has been overshadowed by the Giants\u2019 continued investment in their front seven in recent years. Playing on the fifth-year option, Thibodeaux must compete for snaps with\u00a0Abdul Carter<\/a>, the third overall pick in last year\u2019s draft. It\u2019s all about capitalizing on whatever opportunities arise, even if it\u2019s only to boost his trade value. Whether his future exists in New York or elsewhere, the time is now for Thibodeaux to establish a positive reputation, especially after he posted a career-low sack total (2.5) in 2025.<\/p>\n

The roster building season for John Harbaugh\u2019s first year as head coach of the\u00a0New York Giants, for all intents and purposes, is over.<\/p>\n

There can still be changes, of course, and there will be.<\/p>\n

But the focus now turns to team building season as the Giants continue organized team activity (OTA) practices this week heading into Thursday\u2019s third session. And make no mistake, those players remaining on the roster find themselves within a group that went 7-27 over the last two seasons, winning just once against NFC East rivals\u00a0Eagles\u00a0and Cowboys with four losses in that span while failing to beat the Commanders in four tries.<\/p>\n

That has been the biggest surprise of Harbaugh\u2019s tenure. Even if he was blown away by the aptitude of every member of a front office that has been here for the 22-45-1 run under Schoen, it still was expected that Harbaugh would bring in someone with ties to him from Baltimore.<\/p>\n

Instead, the only two front-office additions, Aponte and director of college scouting John Ritcher, had previously worked with Schoen. There could be a variety of factors involved in the lack of Harbaugh-driven additions. Perhaps he truly is that impressed with the existing staff, but if there have been any failed bids to hire someone from Baltimore or another team, those likely wouldn\u2019t become public. And maybe Harbaugh is just waiting until after the season to make any major shakeups to the front office.<\/p>\n

Tremaine Edmunds almost always looks down on the other players in the linebacker room.<\/p>\n

This would be an alarming personality trait if this were about his attitude toward his teammates. In fact, this is about altitude, not attitude, when it comes to how Edmunds views his professional environment.<\/p>\n

One of the biggest changes is at off-ball linebacker, where free agent Tremaine Edmunds and top draft pick Arvell Reese will be stationed this season. They are taking the places of Okereke and Micah McFadden<\/a>, who is now a backup. The obvious difference between the old and new players is height. Okereke and McFadden are listed at 6-foot-2. The incoming pair are 6-foot-4 or taller<\/p>\n

\u201cI said to him (Reese), \u2018There are not a lot of times that you find someone that you are looking eye-level with, at least for me, because I have always kind of been an outlier as far as one of the taller guys,’\u201d Edmonds said. \u201cBut the league is changing. A lot of teams are going out and getting taller with some bigger guys. That\u2019s life in the NFL. It\u2019s always evolving.\u201d<\/p>\n
