Who will be the next New York Giant<\/a> to be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame?<\/p>\n

There are quite a few candidates, but NFL.com’s Eric Edholm<\/a> believes quarterback Eli Manning<\/a> has the best shot.<\/p>\n

Manning is the obvious Giants<\/a> front-runner for entry, but his spot in the Hall doesn\u2019t appear guaranteed. He reached the final 15 modern-era finalists in both his first two years of eligibility (2025 and 2026) but fell short both times. Manning\u2019s case is built on two Super Bowl titles (and two Super Bowl MVPs), his \u201cGiant Killer\u201d reputation for beating elite teams (including the previously undefeated 2007 Patriots<\/a>) and the fact that he\u2019s the franchise leader in passing yards and TD passes. The case against him: uneven regular-season numbers and QB candidates with stronger overall r\u00e9sum\u00e9s. His former coach, Tom Coughlin, is also a possible inductee who reached semifinal status, and senior candidates such as Carl Banks and Ottis Anderson can\u2019t be forgotten, but Eli is the best pick for the next Giant to get in.<\/p>\n

Manning’s regular-season numbers provide just enough of a slippery slope to make his entry harder than it should be. He played on a lot of bad Giant teams that no quarterback could elevate at times. Eli is paying the price for that. He could be standing in line for a long time.<\/p>\n

Many see Manning as the ultimate NFL nepo baby who gets the benefit of the doubt. That should be one of the reasons why he gets inducted. He was under a ton of pressure and succeeded in the face of it. Not to mention, he never missed a game due to injury in his record-setting 16 years with Big Blue.<\/p>\n

Coughlin is a Hall of Famer in many experts’ eyes. His problem is that there’s a backlog of coaches with similar accomplishments grouped in with him, such as Mike Shanahan, George Seifert, Mike Holmgren, Dan Reeves, Chuck Knox, and Marty Schottenheimer. Then there is Bill Belichick, who will have to go in at some point. It will take a lot of politicking to get Coughlin across the finish line.<\/p>\n

Banks and Anderson were both great players, and their names hang prominently in the Giants’ Ring of Honor, but they each have national recognition problems.<\/p>\n

Anderson actually had two careers. He was the St. Louis Cardinals’ all-time leading rusher (and still is), the 1979 NFL Rookie of the Year, the 1989 NFL Comeback Player of the Year, a two-time All-Pro, and a two-time Super Bowl champion. He was also named the MVP of Super Bowl XXV.<\/p>\n

Perhaps if the Cardinals would awake from their century-long coma and induct Anderson into their Ring of Honor, he might get back on the radar.<\/p>\n

Banks was overshadowed by Hall of Famers Lawrence Taylor and Harry Carson early on in his career, but he developed into one of the NFL’s top outside linebackers. He is a member of the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team.<\/p>\n

The voters are likely thinking the Giants already have two linebackers from that era in the Hall, and a third one would be egregious. That hasn’t stopped them from loading the halls of Canton with 1985 Chicago Bears. Banks belongs.<\/p>\n

Tiki Barber, the Giants’ all-time leading rusher who was one of the most versatile and dynamic players at his position in NFL history, is not getting any love. This is despite voters knowing that he is one of only four players who have 10,000 rushing yards and 5,000 receiving yards in their career. And he is the only player to record 10,000 rushing yards, 5,000 receiving yards, and 1,000 punt-return yards.<\/p>\n
