Derek Carr<\/a>, the retired former New Orleans Saints<\/a> quarterback, recently opened up on \u201cThe Rush With Maxx Crosby<\/a>\u201d about his biggest regret from his time in the Big Easy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish, man, more than anything,\u201d Carr said, \u201cwhen we first got there, I was so focused on the football that I didn\u2019t really get to the community aspect<\/a> like I did with the Raiders that first six months.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd that\u2019s one thing I look back at like, \u2018Man, I wish I did that sooner, right?\u2019 Like, we did some community things. We helped bless a lot of families, and the people out there are beautiful. That\u2019s one of those things where I\u2019m like, \u2018Man, I wish I did that sooner.\u2019 That\u2019s one thing I look back on.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then began smiling when speaking about Saints owner Gayle Benson.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s the sweetest lady I\u2019ve ever met, Maxx,\u201d Carr said. \u201cShe is the nicest \u2014 like, we met with her and my wife, Heather, was like, \u2018Yeah, you\u2019re coming here.\u2019 I was like, \u2018Yes, ma\u2019am.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

In May 2025, Carr announced his retirement from the NFL after playing 11 seasons due to a shoulder injury. Over the past year, however, he\u2019s expressed interest in returning to play, specifically for the Las Vegas Raiders if the team hired Klint Kubiak as its new head coach. The Raiders did hire Kubiak, Carr\u2019s former offensive coordinator with the Saints in 2024, but the franchise also drafted Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick in April.<\/p>\n

Carr remains retired. The Saints control his contractual rights, so to play for another team, New Orleans would have to trade or release him. The 35-year-old forfeited his remaining salary in exchange for keeping his $10 million roster bonus. He said he didn\u2019t want to \u201cjust take the Saints\u2019 money.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
