Tampa Sports Authority officials indicated that the Buccaneers \u201care seeking\u201d a $1B renovation to Raymond James Stadium, according to Colleen Wright of the TAMPA BAY TIMES. With a January deadline approaching to negotiate a lease agreement, Bucs brass has \u201cheld private talks about a five-year extension.\u201d Sports Authority officials indicated that \u201chalf that renovation amount would go toward sun coverage over the team\u2019s home stadium.\u201d The Bucs have \u201cfloated paying one-third of the cost with the public covering the other two-thirds.\u201d Sports Authority President & CEO Eric Hart said that he expects the Buccaneers to \u201crequest somewhere between\u201d $700M to $1.3B in renovations to Raymond James Stadium. Hart said that he \u201cbased that figure on other renovation projects done by\u201d NFL teams. He added that the Bucs \u201chave requested another meeting, with a definitive timeframe pending.\u201d Wright notes Tampa Sports Authority \u201calready has budgeted\u201d $58M for projects at Raymond James Stadium. FUNDING CLASH: In Tampa, Emma Behrmann reports Tampa Sports Authority board members \u201care concerned\u201d that a Rays ballpark deal<\/a> \u201ccould hinder local governments\u2019 capacity to fund a Raymond James Stadium renovation.\u201d The Rays\u2019 non-binding memorandum of understanding, which was approved by the Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners<\/a> and Tampa City Council<\/a> last week, outlines $976M in funding from the county and city, which includes $440M from the half-cent sales tax called the Community Investment Tax and $303M from the Tourist Development Tax.
