Despite the fact that Brian Thomas Jr. has been the subject of trade speculation dating back to the 2025 deadline, the Jacksonville Jaguars have made it clear that suggesting they want to move on from him is fraudulent<\/a>. While the 2024 first-round pick should feel good about the team’s trust in him, it also puts pressure on him to show that it wasn’t misplaced. So far, he’s delivered and then some. <\/p>\n

The Jags just opened Organized Team Activities, and Thomas made a strong impression, getting deep to reel in a pass from Trevor Lawrence. <\/p>\n

Head coach Liam Coen met with the local media after Day 1 of OTAs. When asked what he wanted to see from Trevor Lawrence, he said he wants to see him build a better rapport with Brian Thomas Jr., pointing out that they were able to showcase the work they’ve put in throughout the offseason. <\/p>\n

“I think it’s the chemistry between he and BT, first and foremost,” Coen told the press corps<\/a> (3:13 mark). “On working on that chemistry, it was nice to see a great start to that today, live and in person. I think those two have worked at it this spring, thus far throughout phase one, phase two, and then showed up in a nice way today.” <\/p>\n

Coen continued, “Just getting to that page where he, BT, Parker, Jacoby specifically, they all really know what each other are doing, and like what on each concept, the spacing and areas of what those guys can do at a high level. What are some of the weaknesses, to be able to throw to each player a little bit differently? Not every guy is going to run the route the exact same way, and mastering that, how each guy runs a route, and being able to adjust to some of those things is critical for us moving forward.”<\/p>\n

Thomas struggled with drops and inconsistency last year<\/a>. You could make the case that some of that stemmed from his inability to build a strong connection with Lawrence in training camp. The good news is that the two are doing their best to rectify the issue.<\/p>\n

The Jaguars should be thrilled about Brian Thomas Jr.’s showing at OTAs<\/p>\n

Although there’s still a long way to go until the regular season, it’s encouraging to see Brian Thomas Jr. make the most of his chances in training camp. And based on Liam Coen’s it looks like the 2024 first-round pick will be a bigger part of the offense next season. That’s probably not something the Jaguars would do if they were planning to move on from him. <\/p>\n

On the other hand, the margin for error will be slim for Thomas. Last year, Jacksonville didn’t have many options at receiver besides Parker Washington, which played a role in the decision to trade for Jakobi Meyers midseason. <\/p>\n

Now, the Jags have built a well-rounded wide receiver corps that just welcomed a pair of rookies in Josh Cameron and CJ Williams<\/a>. If Thomas falters, the team’s brass won’t hesitate to give someone else playing time. The good news is that it doesn’t look like things are trending that way.<\/p>\n

Brian Thomas Jr. is making the most of his chances at OTAs. And if he keeps making strides, he will once again give the Jaguars a deep threat that will be difficult to stop<\/a>.<\/p>\n
