NFL redrafts are always fun for one simple reason. They remind everyone how absurdly fragile history really is. One different decision, an altered evaluation, or one franchise chooses differently, and suddenly, the entire NFL landscape changes. Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> fans probably know that better than anyone.<\/p>\n

Sometimes, a little luck is involved. After all, that’s how Philadelphia wound up with Jalen Carter<\/a>, Quinyon Mitchell<\/a>, Cooper DeJean<\/a>, Jihaad Campbell<\/a>, and Makai Lemon in recent seasons, but in a recent CBS Sports 2023 NFL redraft<\/a>, Howie Roseman and company missed out on their All-Pro defensive tackle.<\/p>\n

CBS Sports rewrites Eagles<\/a> history in 2023 redraft<\/p>\n

Ryan Wilson rewrites history entirely in this draft redo. The Atlanta Falcons<\/a> avoided the temptation to draft running back Bijan Robinson<\/a> with the eighth overall selection. Instead, they removed any temptation Philadelphia may have had to gamble on Jalen Carter.<\/p>\n

The former Georgia Bulldogs<\/a> star winds up not having to leave the state where he played his college ball. Philadelphia follows the Dallas Goedert<\/a> blueprint by again selecting a tight end from the South Dakota State Jackrabbits<\/a>. Tucker Kraft<\/a> is Philadelphia’s pick at the ninth overall selection. Robinson lands with the Chicago Bears<\/a> at the tenth selection.<\/p>\n

Sure, this won’t change anything, but while you’re waiting on another Eagles press conference, redrafts are decent for entertainment. This again makes one think. Seeing C.J. Stroud<\/a> land with the Carolina Panthers<\/a> would have probably wrecked his career, and if you’re interested, the Eagles also landed guard O’Cyrus Torrence at number 30.<\/p>\n

In reality, the Eagles watched Carter slide into their lap at No. 9 and wasted no time making one of the best draft decisions of the Howie Roseman era. Thankfully, we weren’t victims of some parallel universe.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s an entertaining exercise, but it also serves as a reminder of how easily championship trajectories can be rewritten. Without Carter, Philadelphia loses far more than a talented defensive tackle.<\/p>\n

They lose a two-time Pro Bowler. A Second-Team All-Pro. One of the league\u2019s most disruptive interior defenders. A foundational building block that helped anchor a championship-caliber defense. That\u2019s not a small change. That\u2019s seismic. Sure, Kraft has become a nice player, and no one is pretending the Eagles would have drafted poorly, but let\u2019s be honest. This version of history feels far less appealing in Philadelphia. Then again, that\u2019s what makes the draft fascinating.<\/p>\n

The process is imperfect. Evaluations miss. Teams overthink obvious answers. Sometimes, however, things break exactly the way they\u2019re supposed to. For Philadelphia’s fans, Jalen Carter falling to ninth overall remains one of those beautiful moments where football history got it exactly right. We may be watching the early careers of one of the best Eagles ever.<\/p>\n
