PITTSBURGH \u2014 Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson<\/a> trained with James Everett, also known as the \u201cRoute God,\u201d this offseason. <\/p>\n

The Route God, who\u2019s based in Florida, has trained former Steelers wide receivers Diontae Johnson, George Pickens and several other NFL stars.<\/p>\n

At OTAs<\/a> on Thursday, Wilson credited the Route God for taking his game to the next level. <\/p>\n

\u201cI worked with a lot of different receivers this offseason. Route God was one of them,\u201d Wilson said. \u201cThey\u2019re all great guys. I learned a lot about myself, a lot about football, and a lot about just route running in general. So I think my offseason went very well.\u201d <\/p>\n

To say the least, Wilson hasn\u2019t lived up to expectations in his first two seasons. In 13 games in 2025, Wilson recorded 12 receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns. He was hampered by injuries in his rookie campaign, playing in only one game.<\/p>\n

Despite a rough start to his career, Steelers general manger Omar Khan<\/a> is still confident in Wilson\u2019s abilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a good question. You guys have heard me talk about my beief in Roman,\u201d Khan said at the NFL Combine<\/a> on Tuesday. \u201cI think Roman\u2019s a talented player and I expect him to contribute. I know the coaching staff is excited to work with him, and his rookie year he got hurt, and that was a little bit of a setback and last year the opportunities didn\u2019t com, I think, like everybody would like. But I think he\u2019s got a good future.\u201d<\/p>\n

The third-round pick out of Michigan was a healthy scratch on numerous occasions down the stretch last year, as Aaron Rodgers<\/a> preferred to have veteran receivers Adam Thielen and Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the lineup.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first year obviously was the injuries. First year he got hurt, and I think at the end we were getting ready to start the window for him to practice and we got eliminated from the playoffs. And then last year, different situations, there were different things and there\u2019s not one specific thing, but I\u2019m confident you guys going to see some good things from him this year,\u201d Khan explained.<\/p>\n

While many in the fanbase have labeled Wilson as a bust. Steelers long snapper Christian Kuntz<\/a> also sees a bright future for Wilson, noting that the Hawaii native is constantly working on his craft.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are guys that aren\u2019t producing that are developing on the team that no one\u2019s heard of,\u201d Kuntz recently said on his podcast<\/a>. \u201cOne comes to mind now: Roman Wilson. People think the production wasn\u2019t there the first two years \u2014 they\u2019re calling him a bust. They don\u2019t know that he\u2019s working his ass off. I will \u2014 and I\u2019ve continued to \u2014 back Roman because I see how he works, and I know it\u2019s going to pay off. I believe in him.\u201d<\/p>\n

it will be interesting to see how things unfold for Wilson under new head coach Mike McCarthy<\/a>. The Steelers need to see a big leap from Wilson in Year 3.<\/p>\n
