The NFL\u2019s<\/a> voluntary workout phase is underway, with OTAs taking place across the league. Several teams have had notable absences during the voluntary portion of the offseason. Some tied to contract disputes and others stemming from different circumstances.<\/p>\n

The Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> have been without wide receiver Rashee Rice<\/a> during OTAs due to a 30-day jail sentence. Rice reportedly violated the terms of his probation and was taken back into custody. His absence has raised questions about whether he could face another suspension from the NFL.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed<\/a> the media and was asked about the possibility of Rice being suspended. At this point, Reid said there has been no indication that additional discipline is coming.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs far as Rashee goes, we\u2019re aware of the situation, the league\u2019s aware of it, we\u2019ve talked to the league, we get it,\u201d Reid said. \u201cAs far as any further ado to that, there\u2019s been no talk about anything further. We\u2019re moving forward, just normal as we go here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now new is good news?<\/p>\n

For now, a suspension does not appear to be imminent. Reid also expressed confidence that Rice will be able to catch up quickly once he returns to the team. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of learning from the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he gets back, we\u2019ve got to get him caught up and doing what he needs to do. And then, make sure he gets it. It\u2019s not an easy thing he\u2019s going through. Life lessons are important, but we\u2019re all given chances to learn, and so he\u2019s in that position now.\u201d Reid said.<\/p>\n

A previous report<\/a> indicated that the Chiefs are not expected to negotiate a contract extension with Rice this offseason or before the 2026 regular season. The belief is that Rice may have exhausted some of the organization\u2019s patience following his off-field issues.<\/p>\n

Still, Reid\u2019s comments suggest the Chiefs are willing to give Rice an opportunity to learn from the experience and earn back trust through his play on the field. Beyond that, his long-term future with the organization remains uncertain and could depend on how the remainder of the 2026 season unfolds.<\/p>\n

Rice also reportedly underwent a cleanup procedure on his knee prior to serving his sentence.
