The Miami Dolphins<\/a> won the AFC East in 2008 after going 11-5, but they fell to the Baltimore Ravens<\/a> 27-9 in the wild-card round, extending their drought of playoff wins, which is one that still exists today.<\/p>\n

While the Dolphins have had a few bright spots since then, they haven’t had the success of other teams around the league, including the three others in the division, who have all made it to at least the AFC Championship game.<\/p>\n

In a recent appearance on “The Dive Bar Podcast,” former Dolphins cornerback Sean Smith<\/a> went scorched earth on a former executive who he claims pushed the second-round pick out and led Miami down this bad path.<\/p>\n

“Unfortunately, Jeff Ireland, sorry (expletive), destroyed the Miami Dolphins<\/a>,” Smith said.<\/a>\u00a0“He, personally, you can talk to anybody you want to who’s not playing no more,\u00a0that guy, terrible. I think he offered me like $1.2 (million).\u00a0It was something crazy.\u00a0I’m like, ‘what? There’s no way.’ I hung up so fast.\u00a0Bro, get the (expletive) off my phone. Nobody ever wants to leave Miami.\u00a0Come on now…\u00a0Ireland was really the one that he thought he ran the whole organization,\u00a0and he was making some (expletive) decisions. I really don’t understand what that man was thinking…\u00a0It’s the same story over and over and over again.\u00a0The common denominator is that guy.<\/p>\n

“It sucks because we’ve had some talent come through Miami.\u00a0If you can’t keep talent in Miami, then what does that say about you? This has to be one of the most attractive places to come to, and guys are coming in and out.”<\/p>\n

Ireland wasn’t a popular figure during his tenure in South Florida. He served as general manager for six seasons from 2008-13. That 2008 season was the only time the team made the playoffs under Ireland.<\/p>\n

With six first-round picks in six seasons, Ireland’s selections were a mixed bag, as he took Jake Long<\/a> in 2008, Vontae Davis<\/a> in 2009, Jared Odrick<\/a> in 2010, Mike Pouncey<\/a> in 2011, Ryan Tannehill<\/a> in 2012 and Dion Jordan<\/a> in 2013.<\/p>\n
