{"id":904551,"date":"2026-05-29T16:45:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T16:45:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/904551\/"},"modified":"2026-05-29T16:45:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T16:45:17","slug":"atlanta-falcons-roster-cut-deadline-moved-up-by-nfl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/904551\/","title":{"rendered":"Atlanta Falcons: Roster cut deadline moved up by NFL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>May 29, 2026, 12:15 p.m. ET<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The NFL has made a change to its 2026 roster deadline and the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/nfl\/teams\/atlanta-falcons\/323\" data-autotag=\"55e278ca-caf0-429b-8b4a-caeb78bff5ff\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Atlanta Falcons<\/a> are going to want to take note. According to league insider Tom Pelissero, this year&#8217;s final cutdown deadline will be moved up by a few days from its usual Tuesday afternoon slot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">&#8220;The NFL informed teams recently that this year\u2019s cutdown deadline to 53 players will be 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 30 \u2014 not the following Tuesday, as it has been in recent years, sources say,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TomPelissero\/status\/2060132660266058128\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" rel=\"nofollow\">reported Pelissero<\/a>. &#8220;Waiver claims will be due at 1 p.m. ET on Monday, Aug. 31. The season kicks off Sept. 9.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">While the reasoning behind this change isn&#8217;t clear, NFL teams may have to slightly alter their normal routines. For a team like the Falcons, they need all of the time they can get. Since Atlanta&#8217;s 2026 NFL Draft class had just six players, Atlanta brought in 14 undrafted free agents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Several players of these UDFA signings, including wide receiver Vinny Anthony II and center James Brockermeyer, have a real shot to make the 53-man roster in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The Falcons will kick off their three-game preseason schedule against the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/nfl\/teams\/denver-broncos\/332\" data-autotag=\"80ecb2c2-c4e3-4c9a-8c53-01c0a2da3542\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Denver Broncos<\/a> on August 14. Then, the team will hold two joint practices with the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/nfl\/teams\/indianapolis-colts\/338\" data-autotag=\"d3fda36a-3eb5-4700-8763-caba831c06ae\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Indianapolis Colts<\/a> before facing off against them on August 22.
