\u201cI just want everyone to come out and just see us, be us,\u201d Lassiter said. \u201cA lot of times people see us whenever we\u2019re on the field and they very rarely get to see us off the field. We\u2019re just normal people.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe like to laugh and joke. We like to play. So, it\u2019s just gonna be a time for us to just be ourselves and have a little fun while doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lassiter grew up playing center field as a high school senior before enrolling at the University of Georgia on a football scholarship.<\/p>\n
\u201cI actually really fell in love with it,\u201d Lassiter said. \u201cIt was just too late. It was time for football, so I had to drop it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bragging rights are on the line. Especially between Lassiter and Bullock, his best friend.<\/p>\n
\u201cClearly, I think I\u2019m the best, but all my friends think they\u2019re the best, so we\u2019re going to see who hits the most home runs,\u201d Lassiter said. \u201cEverybody on the team thinks they\u2019re going to hit more home runs than me. (Bullock) thinks he\u2019s going to hit a lot of home runs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to see. It\u2019s really going to be bragging rights, because some people are going to come out here and they\u2019re going to wet the bed. Whenever they wet the bed and get struck out in the home run derby, they\u2019re never going to hear the end of it.”<\/p>\n

Friday afternoon, Lassiter hosted a special shopping spree for children at Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods in Sugar Land.<\/p>\n
Lassiter helped the kids pick out athletic gear and shoes.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s probably full circle for them,\u201d Lassiter said. \u201cI hope the kids just see that there\u2019s always a genuine person out there, someone who really cares about you. They don\u2019t have to know you. You don\u2019t have to know someone to be genuine and be kind just to impact them.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope they like me coming here to hang out with them a little bit. I hope they learn a little bit from me.I\u2019m going to learn a lot from them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Who\u2019s the best softball player?<\/p>\n
No contest, according to Lassiter.<\/p>\n
\u201cMe, you\u2019re looking at him,\u201d Lassiter said. \u201cI\u2019m all-around. I\u2019m a home run hitter. I\u2019m a defensive guru.\u201d<\/p>\n
On and off the field, Lassiter is dedicated. And he\u2019s inspired by the example of his parents, Kammie and Kenneth.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt comes a lot for my family, just being raised by two hard-working, God-fearing people,\u201d Lassiter said. \u201cThat\u2019s instilled in me, but I feel like this event is really just something to put my name on as a staple to be in the city Houston.<\/p>\n
\u201cSomething that I could do year in and year out. Just have people come out and just enjoy a day where we can all just be together.\u201d<\/p>\n
