When asked about edge depth, the Seattle Seahawks<\/a>\u2019 top brass have spoke about second-year defensive end Connor O\u2019Toole<\/a> earning more reps multiple times this offseason. What does he do well enough to crack the rotation? Let\u2019s examine here.<\/p>\n

The team signed him last offseason as an undrafted free agent. One might surmise that measurables would be an issue for someone with lower prospect pedigree, but that isn’t true of O\u2019Toole. His overall athletic testing ranked in the 94th percentile at his position, and every one of his speed, agility and explosiveness tests graded 84th percentile or better. He\u2019s not the biggest at 246 pounds, but his 6\u20193 \u215c\u201d frame suggests the Seahawks would\u2019ve been able to add a bit more weight on over his first year in their organization.<\/p>\n

After losing Boye Mafe<\/a>, the Seahawks are searching for players to fill anywhere from 20-50 snaps on the edge per game. Dante Fowler Jr.<\/a> should chip in, Jared Ivey<\/a>, Jamie Sheriff<\/a> and Jalan Gaines are in a similar situation to O\u2019Toole, and newly signed UDFAs Aidan Hubbard and Marvin Jones Jr.<\/a> look to make the team or practice squad as undrafted free agents. The one thing the team lacks with the starting trio of DeMarcus Lawrence<\/a>, Derrick Hall<\/a> and Uchenna Nwosu<\/a> lacks is speed rush, which is what the competition between the aforementioned names will center around. If O\u2019Toole can translate the athleticism he\u2019s shown to effective pass rush reps and generate pressures in the preseason, he\u2019ll have a substantial chance to make the 53-man roster and earn snaps.<\/p>\n
