The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> have led the way in the position-by-position divisional rankings so far, landing first or second in both the quarterback<\/a> and running back tier<\/a>s. Dak Prescott is leading the way for quarterbacks, and Saquon Barkley for running backs. Will the same be the case for the tight end position?<\/p>\n

Both have options who have at least 600 yards receiving and 8 touchdowns in a season, with their starters, Dallas Goedert and Jake Ferguson, combining for nearly 1,200 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2025. The other two teams, the Washington Commanders<\/a> and New York Giants<\/a>, both looked to upgrade their starters in free agency. Did they do enough?<\/p>\n

4) Washington Commanders\"Tennessee<\/p>\n

Chig Okonkwo played his first four seasons with the Tennessee Titans<\/a> and consistently posted around 500 yards and two touchdowns in one of the league’s worst producing offenses. But the Commanders backups are limited.<\/p>\n

John Bates has never scored more than one touchdown or caught more than 250 yards, and Ben Sinnott has had even less production.<\/p>\n

The New York Giants went out and signed the Ravens<\/a>‘ productive backup tight end, Isaiah Likely, as he was a key target for new head coach John Harbaugh who came over from Baltimore. Likely had only a single season with over 609 snaps on offense, and he put up 477 yards and six touchdowns. That should be a minimum for him in New York, if healthy.<\/p>\n

The presence of Theo Johnson is why New York is ahead of Washington. Last season, he put up 45 receptions for over 500 yards and five touchdowns. The Giants are the only NFC East team to have a productive backup tight end on their roster.<\/p>\n

2) Dallas Cowboys\"EAST<\/p>\n

According to the analytics, Ferguson isn’t a quality tight end. He averaged just 7.85 yards per reception, which ranks at the bottom of the league. Still, Ferguson caught over 80 balls and scored eight touchdowns. The team could be looking for more playmaking from the position<\/a>, but he has an excellent rapport with Prescott and brings in a lot of passes for the offense.<\/p>\n

They don\u2019t offer much from their backups. Brevyn Spann-Ford is an excellent blocker but has little offensive production, and Luke Schoonmaker has been a flop as a second-round pick. Fans are hopeful that undrafted free agent Michael Trigg can be a playmaking option, but he is a complete unknown in the NFL.<\/p>\n

1) Philadelphia Eagles\"Dallas<\/p>\n

Goedert was the only player on the Eagles offense to have a better 2025 than 2024, ending with 60 receptions for 591 yards and a career high 11 touchdowns. Grant Calcaterra doesn\u2019t have much production offensively, but second-round rookie Eli Stowers is in line to be the future replacement for Goedert. His athletic ability is off the charts and the Eagles seems to always nail their premier picks at the position.<\/p>\n

Learning from Goedert will be huge for Stowers future. Calcaterra is a good emergency insurance policy.<\/p>\n
