At the time, the Cleveland Browns<\/a> appeared to be passing up a potentially generational talent.<\/p>\n

Instead, they may have just traded down three spots to avoid drafting a mostly-cornerback at the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

Travis Hunter<\/a>, the two-way Heisman Trophy superstar, was going to go with the second pick, and the Browns had it.<\/p>\n

Then, they traded down with the Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They got the picks last year that turned into Mason Graham<\/a> and Quinshon Judkins<\/a>, and the one that this year turned into KC Concepcion.<\/p>\n

The Jags got Hunter, and it’s already not aging well.<\/p>\n

He was injured often in his rookie season, and it’s looking less and less likely that he’ll play two-way frequently going forward.<\/p>\n

Sports Illustrated national NFL writer Conor Orr<\/a>\u00a0predicted in a new article on Tuesday that Hunter will play 90% of his snaps this season at cornerback.<\/p>\n

“I don\u2019t think the Jaguars are ready to say that Travis Hunter will never play offense again, especially at a moment when Jacksonville could have really used a first-round pick to help offset losses in free agency,” Orr writes. “That would look disastrous. But I do think the Jaguars will try to specialize Hunter after watching him struggle to find an identity on the field before his injury last season. Hunter clearly looked more pro-ready on defense and could join the turnover-hungry Anthony Campanile crew that helped power the Jaguars\u2019 surprising run in 2025.”<\/p>\n

If that’s really what happens with Hunter, then the Browns are even bigger winners of the trade than it already seemed by the end of the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

Cleveland passed up some potential outcome in which Hunter became one of the most compelling players in the NFL.<\/p>\n

The Browns, though, seem to have had the right feeling about it, that Hunter may not actually reach those heights.<\/p>\n

And with it looking like Cleveland got its ensuing draft picks right, the Browns are in a great spot looking back on that trade.<\/p>\n
