ESPN Analyst: Titans’ Cam Ward 1 of 5 sophomores poised for breakout<\/p>\n

Tennessee Titans<\/a> quarterback Cam Ward had a tough rookie season, through no real fault of his own. The learning curve was managed fairly well, but he was hindered by coaching turnover. He finally started showing us what he can do toward the end of the season when things became more stable and predictable.<\/p>\n

Ward has the potential to be an elite quarterback in this league, but he needs to have the right guidance and development. Last season’s Titans<\/a>‘ coaching staff simply wasn’t the right group to do this. However, Brian Daboll already has experience in this area, and the fit for Ward seems to be much better.<\/p>\n

The pairing of Daboll and Ward is definitely a contributing factor to ESPN’s Matt Miller naming Ward as one of five sophomores who could break out in 2026.<\/p>\n

Film watchers will tell you that Ward played much better in 2025 than his numbers showed, especially when factoring in the poor supporting cast and scheme around him in Tennessee. Both should be better in 2026, with Brian Daboll at offensive coordinator and new WRs in Wan’Dale Robinson and Carnell Tate.<\/p>\n

Ward had a 59.8% completion percentage (31st out of 33 qualifying QBs) and 33.2 QBR (28th out of 28 qualifying QBs) last season. But now he has the infrastructure to be the playmaker we saw in college.<\/p>\n

Ward’s completion percentage was definitely low, but let’s also remember that Calvin Ridley broke his leg in the middle of the season, Tyler Lockett asked for a release prior to that injury, and Van Jefferson wasn’t exactly helpful. That left Ward with two rookie wide receivers and a rookie tight end, plus Chig Okonkwo. Okonkwo ended up as Ward’s most reliable target.<\/p>\n

Okonkwo may be gone, but with the additions to the wide receivers’ room, plus the retention of Gunnar Helm and bringing in Daniel Bellinger, Ward has several more viable targets in 2026 than he did in 2025. And with Brian Daboll’s scheme and system, Ward will be in a much better position to succeed, so a breakout season is absolutely in the cards.<\/p>\n
