The Washington Commanders<\/a> have a problem that several other organizations are currently facing: they lack a formidable receiving corps.<\/p>\n

Outside of Terry McLaurin<\/a>, it\u2019s hard to feel confident about the Commanders’ WR options three months before Week 1 of the 2026-27 season. One trade could change that, though, and Bleacher Report\u2019s Alex Kay has a hypothetical deal in mind that could benefit Washington.<\/p>\n

The notable trade proposal would send a 2027 first and sixth-round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a> for a 23-year-old Pro Bowl who was recently linked<\/a> to a deal with Washington\u2019s NFC East rival, the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Jacksonville Jaguars appeared to have one of the biggest steals of the 2024 NFL draft on their hands after Brian Thomas Jr.<\/a>, the No. 23 overall selection that year, exploded for nearly 1,300 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns on 87 receptions as a rookie,\u201d Kay wrote Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cA confounding follow-up campaign, one in the wideout recorded a modest 48\/707\/2 stat line, could lead to a surprisingly early exit from Duval. Thomas struggled with physical and mental health during his disastrous sophomore season. While he managed to appear in 14 games in 2025, he appeared reticent to go across the middle and recently admitted that it \u2018hurt to run\u2019 at times.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Commanders may already have a Pro Bowl-caliber wideout in Terry McLaurin, but McLaurin is now on the wrong side of 30 and missed seven games with injury last year. The addition of Thomas would give the club a young, high-ceiling weapon who has the potential to stick around for the long haul.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thomas\u2019 2025-26 campaign caused many to pump the brakes on the hype surrounding the LSU product. Thomas made his fair share of positive plays with the Jaguars in Year 2, but he wasn\u2019t the same explosive, speedy 6-foot-2 WR he was as a rookie.<\/p>\n

That said, the Commanders aren\u2019t in a position to adopt an elitist mindset, as they must find viable talent that wouldn\u2019t make their WR room worse than it already is.<\/p>\n

With Deebo Samuel<\/a>, Washington\u2019s leader in receiving yards last year, not expected to re-sign with the franchise, and McLaurin needing much-needed assistance moving forward, it isn\u2019t preposterous to suggest that Thomas is worth a look.<\/p>\n
