As such, there are plenty of questions about the leadership of this team as they enter into the first year of a new build. Yes, some valued veterans remain. That group includes LB Jordyn Brooks<\/a> and C Aaron Brewer<\/a>. Defensive tackle Zach Sieler<\/a> is also an experienced leader. But your team\u2019s leadership is often defined by your quarterback – that is the temperature setter for franchises. Malik Willis, in his first opportunity to be an unquestioned starter, will fill many roles for Miami<\/a> this season. Leader will be among the most important –\u00a0and he gave us a brief look into how he\u2019s filling that role this summer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the biggest thing is not getting frustrated with progress. When you have progress, it\u2019s up, it\u2019s down, and the main thing is to continue to strive for the upward trend. I think it\u2019s just understanding that we get better with each rep and we only get so many at a practice a day. So not to take one day into the next, unless it is positive.\u201d <\/p>\n

The perspective from Willis hits home after last week saw some reports of some trying 7 on 7 periods for the passing game. There\u2019s a lot of ballgame left this summer before we even get into the preseason –\u00a0and the message Willis is preaching is an even-keeled mentality that can help players stay off the mental roller coaster of judging themselves on results prematurely. This team needs a lot of progress. It\u2019s all brand new. But they have a lot of time. The right mentality now will go a long way.
