{"id":916400,"date":"2026-06-12T00:09:19","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T00:09:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/916400\/"},"modified":"2026-06-12T00:09:19","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T00:09:19","slug":"ex-jet-indicted-on-murder-charge-in-death-of-his-girlfriend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/916400\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Jet indicted on murder charge in death of his girlfriend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Jets linebacker Darron Lee was indicted this week on a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/11\/sports\/ex-jets-first-rounder-could-face-death-penalty-grisly-new-details-revealed-about-girlfriends-murder\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">murder charge<\/a> in the February death of his partner, Gabriella Perpetuo.<\/p>\n<p>A grand jury in Hamilton County (Tennessee) returned the first-degree murder indictment on Tuesday, which carries a life sentence. <\/p>\n<p>The 2016 first-round pick\u2019s case is <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/11\/sports\/ex-jets-first-rounder-could-face-death-penalty-grisly-new-details-revealed-about-girlfriends-murder\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">eligible for the death penalty<\/a>, but a final decision about seeking that punishment will be made at a later date, Hamilton County District Attorney Coty Wamp said.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.76757813;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39651392\" width=\"453\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/2014-national-championship-football-team-9214567.jpg\" alt=\"Darron Lee's mugshot.\" class=\"wp-image-39651392\"  \/>Darron Lee\u2019s mugshot booking photo. Franklin County Sheriff&#8217;s Office<\/p>\n<p>Lee, 31, was initially facing a tampering-with-evidence charge along with the murder charge, but the state dropped the former to \u201cfocus solely on the murder of Gabriella,\u201d Wamp said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2016\/04\/28\/jets-pick-ohio-state-lineback-darron-lee\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lee allegedly consulted ChatGPT<\/a> about getting medical help before calling the police, asking the AI service if a fall could bruise two eyes or cause \u201ctwo stabby looking wounds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perpetuo was found dead in her home near Ooltewah Elementary School in Hamilton County.
