<\/p>\nPHILADELPHIA \u2014 Chris Kuper knows exactly what he\u2019s stepping into as the Philadelphia Eagles\u2019 new offensive line coach.<\/p>\n
For 13 seasons, that position belonged to Jeff Stoutland, a legendary assistant who developed a lengthy list of Pro Bowl talent and helped turn the offensive line into the cornerstone of the franchise\u2019s greatest modern-era run.<\/p>\n
But everyone\u2019s time in the NFL is finite. Stoutland\u2019s tenure ended as the Eagles shifted toward a wide-zone, stretch-run scheme and moved away from their heavy shotgun sets and what Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens recently called \u201csame-side ball.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kuper, 43, arrives in Philadelphia after four seasons as the Minnesota Vikings\u2019 offensive line coach. His eight-year playing career as a guard with the Denver Broncos \u2014 where he started 79 games \u2014 has given him added credibility in the meeting room.<\/p>\n
\u201cReplacing [Stoutland], I just got to be myself,\u201d Kuper said earlier this week.<\/p>\n
Early returns from spring practices have been encouraging. Several Eagles offensive linemen have expressed excitement about Kuper\u2019s coaching style and familiarity with the new scheme.<\/p>\n
\u201cChris is awesome,\u201d star left tackle Jordan Mailata said. \u201cHe\u2019s been a great addition. He\u2019s bringing new techniques, and he\u2019s very familiar with this new scheme. His experience and knowledge are translating from the classroom to the field, and we\u2019re learning a lot.\u201d <\/p>\n

Future Hall of Famer Lane Johnson and Jurgens both highlighted how Kuper\u2019s playing background resonates with the group. <\/p>\n
Johnson noted that Vikings Pro Bowl tackle Brian O\u2019Neill called Kuper his favorite O-line coach in the NFL.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust his playing experience\u2026 He\u2019s a great teacher,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cHe knows, as a former player, how to communicate. That\u2019s really good.\u201d<\/p>\n
The difference is visible on the practice field. Stoutland\u2019s sessions were more methodical, with longer pauses between reps to emphasize teaching points. Kuper\u2019s approach is high-tempo, maximizing reps and building conditioning while reserving detailed instruction for meetings.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s totally different,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cNew drills, new tempo. It was a game-changer for me coming out there and getting used to that.\u201d<\/p>\n
The technical changes have also sparked interest.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think the new system he\u2019s stressing is going to be more efficient for us,\u201d Johnson added. \u201cOur run-blocking angles will be more conducive. We\u2019ll be able to be in a three-point stance a little more.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jurgens described it as a more collective approach: \u201cIt\u2019s all 11 of us that have a job and responsibility. It\u2019s not put on just the five offensive linemen.\u201d<\/p>\n
