Having experienced yet another one-and-done postseason, they are trying just about anything to achieve more favorable results. With bold swings via trade, shrewd free-agent signings, and a clear draft priority, the 2026 Steelers are taking shape.

With training camp fast approaching, it’s time to go over the Steelers’ roster to see where we are and how we got here in the first place. This has been an offseason arguably unlike any other for the organization, featuring major turnover. They’ve gone through so much change, it feels necessary at this time to take stock before we move on.

Position: Quarterback

Total Positional Figure: 4

Additions: 1

Deletions: 0

Players Retained:

Aaron Rodgers: Seemingly unlikely to return after Mike Tomlin retired, Aaron Rodgers is back for one more season as the Steelers’ quarterback. It helps, greatly, that they hired Mike McCarthy as head coach. But can McCarthy, at this stage in their careers, bring the best out of him? More than they saw last season, in a more familiar offense?

Will Howard: Were it not for Tom Brady, the Steelers’ Will Howard may well be the most-talked-about sixth-round quarterback in history. At least, that’s how it’s felt during stretches this offseason. The drafting of Drew Allar and return of Rodgers dampened the flame somewhat, but it still burns. And maybe at some point he’ll even have a chance to justify all of the buzz and hype. He hasn’t yet, not where anybody on the outside can see, anyway.

Mason Rudolph: Everybody’s favorite Steelers quarterback, Mason Rudolph is, yes, still here. But it’s fair to question for how much longer. With a starter and two young developmental quarterbacks, he’ll have a challenge making the roster. As a rookie in 2018, he once played a role in unseating a veteran backup in Landry Jones. Could he see the same treatment eight years later?

Players Added:

Drew Allar: In a weak quarterback draft class, the Steelers took a swing on talent in Drew Allar. Banking on superior coaching being the key to unlocking his talent, he is currently immersed in the McCarthy “QB School”. Likely serving a redshirt year in 2026, Allar will no doubt still be very, very closely monitored as a potential future franchise quarterback.

Players Lost: N/A

Notes and Camp Outlook:

Obviously, there is no training camp battle for the Steelers’ starting quarterback job. Aaron Rodgers is here, and he wouldn’t be otherwise. Already saying this his final season, he is looking for one last hurrah. But not without trying to give the next generation some pointers, and he’s taken the young quarterbacks under his wing.

Both Drew Allar and Will Howard have spoken of the mentorship in the Steelers’ quarterback room. Not just from Rodgers, in fact, but also from Mason Rudolph. Meanwhile, Howard and Rudolph are facing off, though the stakes are unclear. Are they competing for the backup job, or the backup job and a roster spot?

The alternative would be the Steelers keeping four quarterbacks, which is, let’s just say, rare. But it’s not impossible, especially under the current circumstances. The last hurrah for Rodgers, two young quarterbacks to develop, and Rudolph the red-blooded backup.

The Steelers have left virtually no position on theit roster untouched this offseason, and the quarterback group is no…

[2055
1586,1800,7,560,6,520,57,2360,426,2183
post-920466","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-pittsburgh-steelers","tag-aaron-rodgers","tag-drew-allar","tag-football","tag-mason-rudolph","tag-nfl","tag-pittsburgh","tag-pittsburgh-steelers","tag-pittsburghsteelers","tag-steelers","tag-will-howard
["GET
