MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – The Freeman\u2019s know all about playing on the big stage. <\/p>\n
Antonio, a member of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, caught a then Super Bowl record 81-yard touchdown pass from Brett Favre during Super Bowl XXXI. <\/p>\n
Green Bay went on to win the Super Bowl with a 35-21 victory. Antonio finished the game with three catches for 105 yards. <\/p>\n
Now Antonio\u2019s son, Alex, is getting the opportunity to shine on the big stage. <\/p>\n
Alex Freeman is one of 26 players playing on the United States Men\u2019s National Team during the FIFA World Cup. <\/p>\n
\u201cI didn\u2019t know he was going to work so hard to be great, and man, to sit here and say I expected these things, I wouldn\u2019t be telling the truth, but I\u2019m happy to be here,\u201d Antonio Freeman said. \u201cI\u2019m happy of the work that Alex has put in, the sacrifices that he had to make as a teenager. <\/p>\n
\u201cSoccer is a full-year job. It\u2019s a full year game,\u201d Antonio continued. \u201cThere\u2019s no time off. He had to make a lot of sacrifices and grow up fast on his own. He\u2019s done a really good job of just carrying the torch right now.\u201d <\/p>\n
Alex got the start in the United States\u2019 4-1 win over Paraguay on Friday and recorded an assist in the win. <\/p>\n
Alex Freeman, a right-back, plays professionally in Spain for Villarreal. Alex previously played for Orlando City. <\/p>\n
\u201cI mean it\u2019s amazing at times,\u201d Antonio said. \u201cI just never thought that I would be on the soccer circuit traveling the world, traveling the country to see my son, you know to have an opportunity to go to Spain and see him play there. It\u2019s just been an amazing ride.\u201d <\/p>\n
The USMNT will have two more matches in group play, facing Australia on Friday at 2 p.m. and T\u00fcrkiye at 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 25. <\/p>\n
