The Dallas Cowboys and head coach Brian Schottenheimer tested out their combat skills with the team’s latest bonding experience.<\/a> originally appeared on Athlon Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His imprint on the football aspect of the Dallas Cowboys is not yet proven, but head coach Brian Schottenheimer has used his tenure thus far to already make a huge impact on the culture within the walls of The Star.<\/p>\n

From gifting a bottle of champagne to players after a new contract, to buying the whole office Whataburger, and to prioritizing deep personal conversations … Heck, even moving a ping pong table into the locker room and hosting free throw contests.<\/p>\n

Schotty has done it all in valuing character and competitiveness in his team-bonding philosophy.<\/p>\n

The latest story from Schotty’s culture-building during OTAs is a field trip with the team for some man-on-man combat.<\/p>\n

Paintball.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought that was a crazy thing,” guard Tyler Smith said\u00a0via the Dallas Morning News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“That\u2019s never happened before. I thought that was really cool to start things off on a fun note.”<\/p>\n

On the practice field, Schottenheimer hammers home the aspect of competitiveness in every drill … even though there is no full contact allowed yet.<\/p>\n

The Cowboys players were able to channel this mentality to another field, albeit with more relaxed intentions.<\/p>\n

But judging by their reactions, the men still took it seriously.<\/p>\n

“The guys were going crazy. It was fun,\u201d Smith added.<\/p>\n

Who was the best, you may be wondering?<\/p>\n

Safety Markquese Bell.<\/p>\n

“Oh my God. Oh my God. Markquese Bell could probably go to SEAL Team 6. I\u2019m not gonna lie, the way he be paintballing, Bell, for sure,” Smith said with a laugh.<\/p>\n

The competitive juices were flowing, but thankfully there were no reports of any injuries. Damien Wilson, a former Cowboys linebacker, memorably injured his eye<\/a> while playing paintball during OTAs in 2016 that forced him to miss a week of practice.<\/p>\n

None of that this time around.<\/p>\n

Needless to say, the Cowboys are enjoying this offseason with new leader Brian Schottenheimer turning into the epitome of a “players’ coach”.<\/p>\n

The Cowboys hope Schotty’s culture of character and competitiveness now translates to wins on the field this season.<\/p>\n

The football field, that is.<\/p>\n
