{"id":928054,"date":"2026-06-25T02:33:26","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T02:33:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/928054\/"},"modified":"2026-06-25T02:33:26","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T02:33:26","slug":"giants-luis-arraez-out-of-lineup-after-fouling-ball-off-his-foot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/928054\/","title":{"rendered":"Giants\u2019 Luis Arraez out of lineup after fouling ball off his foot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN FRANCISCO \u2014 Tony Vitello summed up the status of his second baseman who <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/23\/sports\/luis-arraez-leaves-sf-giants-game-in-potential-blow-to-trade-deadline-haul\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fouled a ball off his foot<\/a> a night earlier like only the Giants\u2019 iconoclastic manager can.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA little tardy on the next pedicure for him,\u201d Vitello said Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Luis Arraez was held out of the Giants\u2019 lineup for the second game of their series against the Athletics after he left <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/24\/sports\/jung-hoo-lee-robbie-ray-play-starring-roles-in-giants-win-over-as\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tuesday night\u2019s 3-1 win<\/a> when the discomfort from the foul ball became too much to bear.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39786309\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/luis-arraez-1-san-francisco-132019958.jpg\" alt=\"Luis Arraez of the San Francisco Giants reacting after hitting a foul ball into his leg.\" class=\"wp-image-39786309\"  \/>Luis Arraez reacts after hitting a foul ball into his leg in the bottom of the first inning against the Athletics at Oracle Park. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Vitello didn\u2019t rule out the possibility of using him as a pinch-hitter and was optimistic about his chances of returning to the lineup Thursday, despite reporting that his foot was numb when the manager checked in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said his foot\u2019s asleep right now from the treatment, but I\u2019ve gotta believe that\u2019s going to help swelling and all that,\u201d Vitello said. \u201cI don\u2019t know that it makes the most sense or that it will even be an option on the sheet [for Arraez to pinch-hit]. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut hopefully with the work he\u2019s doing back there it would mean tomorrow would be an opportunity. MLB Photos via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>In a brief appearance in the clubhouse during the time it was open to reporters, Arraez had his right foot wrapped in athletic tape but appeared to be in good spirits, per usual.<\/p>\n<p>X-rays came back negative after he fouled a pitch from A\u2019s starter Aaron Civale off the arch of his right foot, just missing the protective padding covering his shin, in the first inning Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Arraez initially remained in the game but was pulled before the top of the fifth, with Casey Schmitt moving from left field to take over at second base. Utility man Schmitt again filled in for Arraez on Wednesday.
