ATLANTA \u2014 The brother of Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Calais Campbell was arrested in connection with the murder of their mother, authorities said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
[\u00a0Read more trending news <\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n According to Fulton County online jail records, Ciarre Bryce Campbell, 41, of Atlanta, was charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm or knife.<\/p>\n He is accused of the stabbing death of Nateal Campbell, 71, of Atlanta.<\/p>\n pic.twitter.com\/X1COPtekWs<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) July 1, 2026<\/a> <\/p>\n Ciarre Campbell waived his first court appearance Wednesday and will remain in jail, WSB-TV<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n According to an arrest warrant, Nateal Campbell\u2019s throat was cut and Ciarre Campbell was found by police in possession of a knife, ESPN<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n Officers found her unresponsive when they arrived at around 12:30 p.m. ET Tuesday, police said.<\/p>\n Lt. Christapher Butler of the Atlanta Police Department said that police initially received a call for a welfare check from a concerned family member, according to WSB-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n In a statement, the Campbell family asked for privacy while they dealt with \u201coverwhelming grief,\u201d ESPN<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are devastated to share that the Campbell Family has lost its matriarch, Mrs. Nateal Campbell,\u201d the statement said. \u201cWhile the details of her passing are still being investigated, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with our father, her beloved Chuck, and in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.\u201d<\/p>\n Defense attorney Jay Abt, who is representing Ciarre Campbell, told WSB-TV<\/a> that his client was innocent until proven guilty.<\/p>\n \u201cWe look forward to his day in court. I\u2019m honored to defend him and, most importantly, the Campbell family,\u201d Abt told the television station. \u201cI\u2019m asking on their behalf that the public respect their privacy at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n Calais Campbell is a 19-year NFL veteran who played college at the University of Miami.
