The\u00a0Arizona Cardinals<\/a>\u00a0report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team.<\/p>\n Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2025, questions they face and their roster outlook.<\/p>\n Here is running back Trey Benson.<\/p>\n Trey Benson background, 2025 season<\/p>\n Benson enters his third NFL season and his third with the Cardinals<\/a>. He was drafted in the third round in 2024.<\/p>\n Need a news break? He was the team’s third-down back and the guy to spell James Conner, and when Conner went down for the season in Week 3, Benson was primed to take over.<\/p>\n However, he injured his knee the very next week and didn’t play again. He tore his meniscus, had surgery, returned to practice and then had a setback after he says he pushed too hard to get back on the field.<\/p>\n He rushed for 160 yards on 29 attempts last season.<\/p>\n Trey Benson contract details, cap hit<\/p>\n Benson enters Year 3 of his four-year rookie contract. He is due to make more than $1.3 million in salary, and his cap hit will be less than $1.66 million.<\/p>\n Questions he faces, 2026 roster outlook<\/p>\n Benson is a big question mark for the roster. He is definitely on the bubble. He could get cut or traded.<\/p>\n If Conner is traded, he could be the No. 3 back, but the problem for him is that he has played zero career snaps on special teams. He just doesn’t really have a set role behind Jeremiyah Love and Tyler Allgeier, and definitely not behind Conner, too.<\/p>\n Can he show enough to be traded? Can he stay healthy?
