All rights reserved

The Green Bay Packers were arguably the most disappointing team in football last year. And perhaps no one did less with more than Packers’ coach Matt LaFleur.

Green Bay headed into the 2025 season with one of the NFL’s top rosters, then traded for star defensive end Micah Parsons 10 days before the year began. Suddenly, Packer Nation was dreaming of their first Super Bowl appearance since 2010.

Instead, Green Bay went a remarkably unsatisfying 9-8-1 overall and was the NFC’s No. 7 seed for a third consecutive year. The Packers then blew a 21-3 halftime lead in the Wild Card round against Chicago, gave up 25 fourth quarter points and eventually suffered a shocking 31-27 loss to the arch-rival Bears.

“No way you should lose games in this league when you’re up that much,” running back Josh Jacobs said.

Green Bay, which began the year 9-3-1, finished the season with five straight losses. The Packers now enter 2026 with the league’s fourth-longest losing streak.

Collapsing late in games was the story of Green Bay’s 2025 campaign.

Green Bay had double digit leads in the final minutes twice against Chicago and also vs. Cleveland and somehow went 0-3 in those games. The Packers’ odds of losing all three contests were 1-in-250,000, yet they somehow did it.

“That (expletive), it’s starting to get damn-near embarrassing,” safety Javon Bullard said.

Rebounding won’t be easy as the Packers were hit hard in free agency and didn’t have a first round draft pick.

Green Bay’s first training camp practice is July 29. Between now and then I will count down the ‘30 Most Important Packers’ heading into the 2026 campaign.

At No. 25 is quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

No. 25Tyrod Taylor, QBLast season

Taylor started four games and played in six contests with the New York Jets last season, completing 80-of-134 passes (59.7%) with five touchdowns and five interceptions. He threw for 779 yards and finished with a passer rating of 72.9 — the lowest of his career in the years he’s thrown at least 100 passes.

Taylor also carried 27 times for 143 yards (5.3) and had one rushing touchdown.

Career to date

Taylor, now in his 16th season out of Virginia Tech, is the only quarterback in NFL history with 10,000-plus passing yards, 2,000-plus rushing yards, 70-plus passing TDs, 20-plus rushing TDs and fewer than 35 interceptions.

Taylor has played in 100 career games while suiting up for Baltimore, Buffalo, Cleveland,, the Los Angeles Chargers, Houston, the New York Giants and the New York Jets. He’s completed 1,165 of 1,886 passes (61.8%) for 13,033 yards, 73 touchdowns, 34 interceptions and has a passer rating of 87.7.

Taylor has also rushed for 2,424 yards and 20 touchdowns on 434 carries (5.6.).

Outlook

Packers quarterback Jordan Love has missed two starts due to injury each of the last two seasons and couldn’t finish three other contests. Green Bay had one of the NFL’s elite backups, though, in Malik Willis — who threw six touchdowns, no interceptions and posted a 134.6 passer rating.

Willis will be the starter in Miami this season, while Taylor turns 37 the first week of training camp. It would be impossible to expect Taylor to perform as well as Willis did, but the Packers need him to at least be serviceable.

“It’s been great. Tyrod is a pro, he’s a vet, he’s been at it for a long time, so it’s nice to have a guy in the room that’s played a lot of ball,” Love said of Taylor. “He’s been in a lot of different offenses and just somebody that you can piggyback off and pick his brain – you know, what are seeing out there? What am I seeing?

“Those kind of things and just have those conversations. Just the way he handles his business, comes into the building and just goes about his work. It’s cool to watch, and it will be great to have him around all season.”

They said it …

“The cool part when he walked in the room, you could feel the presence, the confidence, the composure. He’s seen a lot. He’s been in a lot of different systems, so that part of it just … how quickly he’s able to pick up on things. He showed up when we’re going right to drills and stuff and he’s a true pro and it was pretty cool to see. As far as the juice, he’s definitely still got that.” — Packers quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy on Taylor

“Tyrod, yeah, he’s been awesome, man. He’s really come into the room and is absorbing everything. He does have a little bit of familiarity with our system. Obviously, he’s played a long time in this league, but it is good that he was with [Nathaniel] Hackett a couple years ago, or two years ago, in New York, and so it’s not foreign to him.” — Packers coach Matt LaFleur on Taylor

“This is our first time working alongside one another. It’s about learning one another for sure, but also just having open communication whether it’s us watching film, bouncing ideas off one another. On the field, just talking through certain things. I’ve been through a few offenses. I was in this offense a couple years ago. There’s some familiarity with it. Just being able to bounce ideas and keep an open line of communication, it’s been good. Just expect for us to continue further strengthening that bond as the year goes on.” — Taylor on how he can help Jordan Love at this point in his career

Green Bay Packers quarterback Tyrod Taylor is set to begin his 16th NFL season.
