After a disappointing finish to the 2025 season, the\u00a0Dallas Cowboys<\/a> are looking ahead to the new campaign.<\/p>\n

As the offseason moves forward and NFL teams prepare for training camp, we’re breaking down the Cowboys’ 2026 roster by position groups. To kick things off, we’ll start with Dak Prescott and the quarterbacks:<\/p>\n

Age: 32 NFL experience: 11 years<\/p>\n

Contract: Playing on a four-year, $240 million extension he signed in 2024.<\/p>\n

Summary:\u00a0There’s no question about it: Prescott is the undisputed starting quarterback in Dallas<\/a>. He was one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks in 2025, completing 67.3% of his pass attempts for 4,552 yards, 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. When Prescott is healthy, the Cowboys have boasted one of the league’s top offenses.<\/p>\n

While he competed at a high level last year, the Cowboys should look to have an experienced backup behind Prescott. The quarterback notably missed parts of the 2020, 2022 and 2024 seasons due to injury. As of now, Prescott is looking to strengthen his connection with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.<\/p>\n

Age: 26 NFL experience: 3 years<\/p>\n

Contract: Entering the third year of his four-year, $4.2 million rookie contract.<\/p>\n

Summary: Since Prescott was healthy throughout the entire 2025 season, the Cowboys only got a few glimpses at Milton. <\/a>He mainly played late in a few games before getting extensive action in the team’s regular-season finale.<\/p>\n

Milton went 15-for-24 through the air for 183 passing yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. He displayed impressive arm strength with some deep completions, but his pocket presence needed some work. Could Milton take an important step forward in 2026?<\/p>\n

Age: 25 NFL experience: 5 years<\/p>\n

Contract: Signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal with Dallas this offseason.<\/p>\n

Summary: As we mentioned above, it’ll be important for the Cowboys to have an experienced backup behind Prescott. While he hasn’t been in Dallas for long, Howell would clear the experience marker over Milton. Howell started 18 games for the Washington Commanders from 2022-23.<\/p>\n

Since entering the league in 2022, Howell has gone 404-for-645 through the air for 4,139 yards, 22 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. Howell will likely compete with Milton for the backup role. <\/a>Will Howell find a way to impress Dallas’ coaching staff in training camp?<\/p>\n
