It\u2019s no secret that Kyler Murray is the favorite to win the Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback job, and there is interesting evidence.<\/p>\n

The Minnesota Vikings\u2019 quarterback competition is going to be the talk of training camp. However, it doesn\u2019t appear to be the competition the Vikings are presenting it to be.<\/p>\n

Across the media, betting, and prediction markets, Kyler Murray<\/a> is the overwhelming favorite to win the job. It\u2019s no surprise when you consider Murray\u2019s immense talent and J.J. McCarthy\u2019s poor performance<\/a> last season. The real question here is what you think Murray will be moving forward.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Kyler Murray could be entering his prime<\/p>\n

Murray is about to enter his eighth season in the NFL, which is a substantial amount of time. It\u2019s also noteworthy because quarterback is the most difficult position to play. It\u2019s also interesting with Murray\u2019s current state in the NFL because he\u2019s set to turn 29 in August.<\/p>\n

The Athletic did a study<\/a> to determine when each position peaks, and found that the quarterback position peaks between 29 and 33.<\/p>\n

\u201cQuarterbacks often peak between 29 and 33, which suggests we\u2019ve yet to see the best of Justin Herbert (28), Jalen Hurts (27) and Jordan Love (27).\u201d<\/p>\n

Why does the range 29-33 make the most sense? Simple: it\u2019s the range where players can maximize their intelligence without losing athleticism. That\u2019s exactly where Murray is right now.<\/p>\n

With Kevin O\u2019Connell calling the shots, he\u2019s done a good job of maximizing veteran quarterbacks by adjusting his offense to fit what they do best. With Murray, it\u2019s going to be a lot of quick game concepts, RPOs, and deep shots. Sprinkle in some quarterback running plays and we have a fascinating offense.<\/p>\n

This is far from a guarantee that Murray is going to be elite. The Arizona Cardinals did release Murray from a big contract, but that discussion in itself is a layered one. They didn\u2019t cut him because he\u2019s bad at football, but rather because of where they currently sit, paired with his contract. It\u2019s difficult to justify a rebuild with him considering all of those factors.<\/p>\n

Murray is set to enter his prime, and he could be a major difference-maker in 2026.<\/p>\n
