It seems a trade is the likeliest resolution to the impending split between the Dolphins and Ramsey, but a deal probably won’t happen until after June 1 for salary cap purposes.

Sean McVay was asked for an update on the Rams’ potential pursuit of Ramsey after practice on Wednesday and it sounds like discussions have cooled off as of late. While the Rams would “never close out those opportunities,” they also haven’t had much dialogue with the Dolphins recently.

“I would say this: There really hasn’t been any meaningful, tangible dialogue as of late but that can always change pretty quickly as you know,” he said.

He didn’t deny that the Rams still love Ramsey as a player and would be excited to add him to their secondary, but their level of aggression in these talks might be simmering. Similar to Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel’s update on Wednesday when he said “zero has changed” since he last talked about Ramsey’s situation, McVay indicated things have remained the same on the Rams’ end, too.

“There’s not a whole lot that I have to offer,” McVay said. “There are a lot of layers with something of that magnitude when you’re talking about the caliber of the player, the compensation that they’re looking for in return, what does that look like in terms of how they want to handle what he’s actually due? Obviously, we love Jalen. We know Jalen intimately. There would be some things that we would need to be able to do if that was going to be a direction that we went. We certainly haven’t closed the door on that, but there hasn’t been a whole lot of dialogue as of late in regard to some of the communication and so we’ll see if that changes. These things can happen quickly, but it’s really same as what it was a couple weeks ago.”

Cornerback is unquestionably the Rams’ biggest roster weakness right now, opting not to address it in the draft or in a meaningful way during free agency. It’s a similar group to last year’s unit with Ahkello Witherspoon, Darious Williams and Cobie Durant all back, so the Rams are comfortable with the players they’ve got.

Ramsey is still on the table but when asked whether McVay would want to add more help if it can’t trade for Ramsey, he indicated that’s probably not in the cards.

“No, I feel good about where we’re at,” he said. “Obviously, Jalen’s a unique deal, but I think we all feel this way in terms of the guys that have played. We’ve gotten a lot of guys that have played meaningful ball at the corner position at the safety. We’ve got some different guys that can flex between safety dime, linebacker, the nickel star spot. I think that the way that guys will approach, similar to the previous question, there are a lot of young guys, or maybe even guys that are new to the Rams but have accumulated a bunch of experience that I think are only going to continue to take steps.”

The Rams may not have a star-studded secondary but they do boast a bunch of players with position flexibility, ball skills and good instincts on the back end. With another full offseason of working together, that should yield better results in 2025.

Follow Rams Wire on X, Facebook and Threads for more coverage!

Are the Rams beginning to move on from a potential Ramsey trade?
