As we’ve already noticed from the Los Angeles Rams’ 2025 NFL Draft class’s Relative Athletic Score (RAS)<\/a>, the team didn’t value athleticism. Instead, L.A. appeared to draft for team and scheme fit rather than for traits in the 2025 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

This was also reflected in another advanced analytics site. NFL’s Next Gen Stats<\/a> determined the Rams<\/a> had the 27th-most athletic draft class in 2025 with a score of 71.9. That was ahead of only the Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a> (70.7), the Dallas Cowboys<\/a> (69.4), the Miami Dolphins<\/a> (68.2) and the Carolina Panthers<\/a> (68.1). The Seattle Seahawks<\/a> and Las Vegas Raiders<\/a> finished at the top with scores of 84.7 and 83.7, respectively.<\/p>\n

Athleticism doesn’t always equate to success, though, and the Rams still added a lot of talent. Terrance Ferguson led FBS tight ends in yards after the catch per reception, running back Jarquez Hunter was one of the most explosive players in 2024<\/a> and edge rusher Josaiah Stewart had an elite pass-rush win rate<\/a>.<\/p>\n

So while the score may be bad, this just means that Les Snead and Sean McVay found players they liked and stuck to their guns and their scouting department rather than just looking at other measurables. This strategy has worked a lot in the past, too, with the successes of players like Puka Nacua, Kyren Williams, Jared Verse, Byron Young, Kobie Turner and Braden Fiske.<\/p>\n
