Former Dallas Cowboys<\/a> quarterback Tony Romo<\/a> was arrested Thursday in Milwaukee<\/a> after being accused of driving while intoxicated. <\/p>\n

The 46-year-old CBS<\/a> Sports analyst performed poorly on field sobriety tests during a traffic stop shortly after 6 p.m. on Interstate 43, according to the arrest-detention report obtained by The Independent. <\/p>\n

He was booked on OWI and later released. Romo\u2019s court date is set for September 21 at 8:30 a.m.<\/p>\n

This incident remains under investigation, and a further statement could come later Friday, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said. Additional details about his arrest and the circumstances behind it were not released. <\/p>\n

This is Romo\u2019s first arrest. A first-offense OWI in Wisconsin is typically a civil offense punishable by a $150 to $300 fine.<\/p>\n

Romo attended Burlington High School in Wisconsin, about a 45-minute drive southwest from Milwaukee, where he played football, basketball and golf. He went on to star at Eastern Illinois University, winning the 2002 Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in Division I-AA football.<\/p>\n

After signing with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2003, Romo became the team’s starting quarterback in 2006 and spent his entire 14-year NFL career in Dallas. A four-time Pro Bowler, he retired in 2017 as the franchise’s all-time leader in passing yards and touchdown passes before joining CBS Sports as its lead NFL analyst.<\/p>\n

Romo was back in his hometown this week to compete in the Wisconsin State Amateur golf tournament at West Bend Country Club, which he has participated in since 2018. He finished Thursday tied for 74th place. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m competitive in both, I\u2019m just better at football,\u201d Romo told TMJ4 News<\/a> from the golf course Thursday. \u201cIt\u2019s the challenge of it. It\u2019s as tough as you’re gonna play.\u201d<\/p>\n

He was also photographed giving a young fan golf pointers<\/a> at the event, with images shared Wednesday on social media by Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter Jim Owczarski.<\/p>\n

Romo and his wife Candice, 39, live in North Dallas, Texas, with their three sons: Hawkins, 14, Rivers, 12, and Jones, 8.<\/p>\n
