A former New York Jets first-round draft pick has found a new home just before training camp, as NFL insider Jordan Schultz is reporting<\/a> that Jamal Adams will be signing with the Minnesota Vikings.<\/p>\n

If you’ve been active on Jets-centric social media over the last few weeks, you likely saw some of Adams’ posts and messages<\/a> about a potential return to New York.<\/p>\n

While some analysts, like The Jet Press’ Justin Fried,<\/a> felt that Adams actually offered New York something they don’t currently have –depth at the linebacker position.<\/p>\n

After playing safety for the first eight years of his career, the former LSU standout made the transition to linebacker full -time with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2025, and it seems to have extended his NFL career.<\/p>\n

We’ll see what Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores (who is an elite defensive mind) will be able to get more out of Adams than other coaches have gotten in years past.<\/p>\n

Jamal Adams’ Jets comeback bid ends with Vikings signing<\/p>\n

Jets fans certainly remember the electric start to Adams’ career with the Jets. After making him the sixth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the highly-touted safety prospect earned two Pro Bowls and two All-Pro nods in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.<\/p>\n

ESPN’s Rich Cimini<\/a> recently called him “one of the two best safeties in Jets’ history,” and it’s hard to argue with him. In three seasons with New York, Adams racked up 273 tackles, 12 sacks, and six forced fumbles – just absurd production from the safety position.<\/p>\n

But then the contract troubles began, and Adams burned his way out of New York with a tell-all story from the New York Daily News<\/a> about his head coach and general manager.<\/p>\n

It really rubbed fans the wrong way, and for good reason. He was supposed to be their franchise player and team captain, and at the first few signs of adversity, Adams called it quits<\/a> and demanded out of the organization.<\/p>\n

His exit made it all the more sweet when he struggled later on in his career, failing to stick around with the Seattle Seahawks for more than four seasons, and bouncing around from team to team over the last few years.<\/p>\n

Adams’ transition to linebacker should help. His biggest weakness was always playing in coverage, and as an off-ball player, he may be able to use his explosive athleticism to chase after opposing quarterbacks.<\/p>\n

Maybe there’s a world where the Jets took a chance on their former first-round draft pick, and he finds a second life with the team that drafted him playing a different position.<\/p>\n

Instead, Adams will be fighting to make Minnesota’s 53-man roster through August, and if he can carve out a role for himself, he’ll be facing his former Jets team when the two play each other at MetLife Stadium on January 3, 2027.<\/p>\n
