OXNARD, Calif. – What if the only Dallas Cowboys \u201cdrama\u201d of the summer is all about positivity?<\/p>\n

For one day, anyway, your wish is team owner Jerry Jones\u2019 command, as he oversaw Tuesday\u2019s \u201cState of the Team\u201d address here in Oxnard with a variety of upbeat strokes as Dallas is set to open training camp.<\/p>\n

To wit, Fish\u2019s Top 10 Positive Takes from Jerry Jones\u2019 Glory Hole\u2019 camp presser here in Oxnard \u2026<\/p>\n

1 – We got a chance to really be good,\u201d Jones said. \u201cI like the mood \u2026 (But) it will be hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

2 – Jerry said he is willing to \u2018give up the future\u2019 to add a big-time player \u2026 and just talked to another owner about such a \u201csubstantive\u201d trade.<\/p>\n

Can you say \u201cRaiders and Maxx Crosby,\u2019\u2018 anybody?<\/p>\n

Jones said the Cowboys, who did bid on a Crosby trade in the off-season \u201cnever lost interest\u201d \u2026 but he ended the conversation there siding potential tampering.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a Raider.\u201d<\/p>\n

3 – COO Stephen Jones said the Cowboys won\u2019t have any player starting camp on PUP or NFI.<\/p>\n

4 – DaRon Bland (foot) and Donovan Ezeiruaku (hip) will be monitored at the start of camp because they didn\u2019t do much in the offseason. \u2026 but no special restrictions.<\/p>\n

5 – All-Pro Tyler Smith will start at left guard but get some left tackle snaps, according to coach Brian Schottenheimer. And right guard Tyler Booker will get some snaps at center as well \u2026<\/p>\n

Sounds like smart CYA more than a disaster plan.<\/p>\n

6 – Stephen Jones says DT Quinnen Williams is at the top of the list of players they want to get signed long-term.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbsolutely,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re very open to that. We want Quinnen here for the long haul.\u201d<\/p>\n

And in fact \u2026 The Cowboys have already opened talks with Williams\u2019 agent. (See below.)<\/p>\n

7 – Asked what would make this a successful season, Jerry said, \u201cTo contend for a Super Bowl. And if you contend, you\u2019ve got a real chance of being in the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

8 – Rookie coach concerns? Nah. Brian Schottenheimer on Christian Parker: \u201cHe\u2019s a first time defensive coordinator who doesn\u2019t act like a first time defensive coordinator.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schotty added that Parker might be the hardest-working coach he\u2019s ever been around.<\/p>\n

9 – \u201cMake no mistake about it,\u201d Jerry insisted. \u201cGeorge (Pickens) could be a Cowboy for a long, long time to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

10 – Jerry joked that he might disrupt the so-far quiet offseason.<\/p>\n

But seriously, folks \u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve had a lot going on (behind the scenes),\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019ve made a lot of difficult decisions. \u2026 I like the perception that it\u2019s been a quiet offseason. I like the mood. I like what we\u2019re coming to camp with \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

And more \u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t plan on doing anything here to stir things up,\u201d he promised \u2026 which might be the best football-first news of all.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
