\u201cHe\u2019s always getting better at calling us out,\u201d safety Dell Pettus said Monday. \u201cWhere if we show something too soon, he\u2019s already making the check. We\u2019re like, \u2018Oh, well, now we got to deal with that because he just knows what he\u2019s doing.\u2019 I think that\u2019s a testament of his preparation. I think that\u2019s a testament of how well he played last season, and having a chip on his shoulder that he wants to be the best and continue to show why he feels like he is the best. I definitely feel like Drake is making it a lot harder for us, but also making us better because we\u2019re learning from him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Veteran safety Kevin Byard said he likes to pick Maye\u2019s brain after practice about why the quarterback audibles to different play calls or motions a receiver based on what the defense is showing in their disguises.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just those small things, getting little nuances, and that\u2019s what training camp is for,\u201d Byard said.<\/p>\n
Defensive tackle Milton Williams says he points out different tells to the Patriots\u2019 offensive linemen after every practice.<\/p>\n
And yes, he waits until after practice is over, because as much as the offense and defense want to help each other going into the 2026 season, they\u2019re still competing against each other in training camp.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m always looking at their stance, any pass or run tell that they\u2019re giving us up front, because I know other D-linemen across the league are looking at the same things,\u201d Williams said. \u201cSo, if I feel like they\u2019re giving away a look, I\u2019m telling them after practice.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m gonna use that to my advantage during practice, but after, I\u2019m gonna say, \u2018I knew y\u2019all was doing this because y\u2019all was leaning this way, y\u2019all was looking a certain way, or some of y\u2019all communication, maybe I picked up on.\u2019 But having those conversations and knowing that I\u2019m not the only one listening to those calls, it\u2019s just gonna help them in the future and help us continue to grow.\u201d<\/p>\n
