Green Bay Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd<\/a>‘s lengthy injury history since being drafted in the third round of the 2024 season creates\u00a0hesitancy about projecting his role in 2026.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old has played in a single game in two years due to a litany of injuries. However, Lloyd is as healthy as he\u2019s been during his pro career, and pushing for a significant role behind Josh Jacobs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Thursday, with Jacobs sitting out practice, Lloyd took the bulk of the first-team reps. After catching a touchdown pass, the running back did a backflip that caught the attention of coach Matt LaFleur, who sauntered over to the running back for a chat. \u00a0<\/p>\n

“He said it was cool, but he said let’s not do that,” Lloyd said of his coach\u2019s message via the team\u2019s official website<\/a>. “If he says it’s over, it’s over.”<\/p>\n

Lloyd noted that he\u2019s been doing backflips since he was six years old. LaFleur previously nixed receiver Christian Watson<\/a> \u2013 who also has an injury history \u2013 doing backflips. The Packers coach, like many, doesn\u2019t see the upside in a risky celebration.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s dicey,\u201d quarterback Jordan Love<\/a> concurred. \u201cI can\u2019t do it myself. So it\u2019s scary. You don\u2019t want anything to go wrong, but if you can do it, you can do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The backflip celebration looks cool until an awkward landing turns into a sprained ankle or something worse. The upside simply isn\u2019t there, particularly with a player like Lloyd who hasn\u2019t been able to stay healthy under normal circumstances.<\/p>\n

This offseason, the USC product has finally been able to stay on the field and flashed some of the skill that made him a third-rounder. He\u2019s set to be the primary backup to Jacobs, putting him one injury away from a massive role \u2013 Jacobs also has a lingering off-field issue that has yet to be resolved.<\/p>\n

After not adding any RB depth this offseason, the Packers are counting on Lloyd staying healthy.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery time he\u2019s gotten an opportunity, when he\u2019s been healthy and he\u2019s out there, he\u2019s been impactful,” GM Brian Gutekunst said, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel<\/a>. “And he\u2019s continuing to do that. I\u2019m excited for him. Again, very early. We\u2019ve got a long way to go, but when he\u2019s out there he\u2019s making plays, and he\u2019s turning heads.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe always kind of has done that since he\u2019s been here when he\u2019s been able to be out there.\u201d<\/p>\n
