1) iDL Ty Robinson: Robinson had a bad rookie season and he began camp getting reps with the developmental players, but he has steadily gotten more meaningful reps, and has gotten better as camp has progressed. He\u2019s also just a second-year player and a high fourth-round pick at that, even if he was an older prospect when he entered the NFL. The Eagles are not going to give up on him this soon, especially with questionable iDL depth beyond the top four guys. He will very likely be on the roster. 2) RB Will Shipley: Shipley had a golden opportunity to be the RB2 last season, but he didn\u2019t make a convincing enough argument and the team traded for Tank Bigsby. Still, Shipley returns kicks, he\u2019s the personal protector on the punt team, and again, he\u2019s a recent draft pick that the team will not be quick to give up on.<\/p>\n

The 2025 fourth-rounder out of Nebraska had a strong showing on Monday as a pass rusher, forcing his way into the backfield on multiple occasions against the second-string offense. Robinson could use some standout preseason performances if he wants to make a case for the initial 53. Willie Lampkin, OL. Lampkin hasn\u2019t played a football game since Aug. 16, 2025. At that time, the 2025 undrafted free agent out of North Carolina was a member of the Los Angeles Rams. He had a strong start to camp, especially in the preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys. But Lampkin was injured in the second game of the preseason against the Los Angeles Chargers, and he was ultimately waived at the end of camp with an injury designation. The Eagles signed him to the active roster and placed him on injured reserve for the rest of the year. Now, Lampkin is set to return to action this preseason as he vies for a depth role, at both center and guard.<\/p>\n
I\u2019d go stock up\u2122 on Mac McWilliams, who was taking first-team nickel corner reps today. He\u2019s stacking his best days of the summer recently. I\u2019d go stock down\u2122 on Hollywood Brown. The veteran receiver has been the target on most of Hurts\u2019 interceptions in training camp this summer. Brown also had a bad drop while wide open on a bubble screen. Brown received $5 million fully guaranteed when the Eagles signed him, so, the money doesn\u2019t make it a no-brainer for the team to move on from the veteran receiver. But he just hasn\u2019t had a great camp and he\u2019s been outshined by other Eagles receivers. Brown got some extra work in with Hurts after practice to presumably help getting on the same page.<\/p>\n
Darius Cooper, WR: When camp began, I felt like Cooper had a chance to make the roster. After a few days, I thought he had a chance to not just make the team but to contribute. Now, I look at him as a roster lock with a real chance to play a significant role on offense. He\u2019s been that good. Cooper was impressive last summer, but he\u2019s been even better this year. Way better. Probably the Eagles\u2019 best overall WR this summer. We\u2019ve all seen training camp wonders who don\u2019t contribute once the season starts. I don\u2019t think that\u2019s the case here. This kid can flat-out play.<\/p>\n
The best training camp practice of Darius Cooper\u2019s career came Monday. Jalen Hurts found him all over the field \u2014 deep down the sideline, across the middle, in traffic, making adjustments on the ball. Without any context, one would have thought Cooper was already a regular starter with the franchise quarterback. Kennady, Darius\u2019 wife, needed to work that morning. She could not attend her husband\u2019s standout session. \u201cHow was practice?\u201d she asked him later that night. \u201cIt\u2019s great,\u201d he responded, \u201cbut there are some things I can work on.\u201d Cooper, the second-year wide receiver, does not have a social media account. He\u2019s not reading The Athletic\u2019s practice observations. He\u2019s not tuned into podcasts or talk radio. What he failed to realize is that his practice session had gone viral among ardent Philadelphia Eagles followers. Kennady already knew. \u201cUnless you\u2019re here, you don\u2019t get the full story because he\u2019s so humble and he\u2019s always working to get better,\u201d Kennady said after practice Thursday. \u201cSo I\u2019m not sure exactly how it went, but from the reports I heard, it was a great day.\u201d \u201cWhen someone says to Darius, \u2018Wow, man, you had a great camp day,\u2019 Darius always says, \u2018I could have done better\u2019,\u201d explained Veronica Watkins, Darius\u2019 mother. \u201cHe\u2019s always looking to improve himself.\u201d<\/p>\n
Edge rusher (6): Jalyx Hunt, Jonathan Greenard, Nolan Smith, Arnold Ebiketie, AJ Epenesa, Joshua Weru. Let\u2019s talk about Weru. \u2026 The Kenya native with a background in rugby has been one of the bigger surprises of Eagles training camp so far. At 6-foot-4, 244 pounds, he\u2019s explosive off the ball with long arms and a surprising amount of power considering both his size and relative unfamiliarity with the sport. Weru has an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster, especially with the extra spot on the practice squad for an international player pathway program player available for either him or Bernard, but I\u2019d argue he\u2019s flashed enough in practice that the Eagles shouldn\u2019t risk another team poaching him off their practice squad. To that end, it will be instructive how they use him in the preseason. Outside of Weru, Each of the other edge rushers have seemingly done enough to make the team. Epenesa could be a practice squad stash as well, but I think he\u2019s been solid enough to be on the roster if healthy.<\/p>\n
SEAN MANNION \u2014 The preseason will offer us the first glimpse of the changes Mannion has planned. We expect to see Jalen Hurts operate from under center more often than he has in the past, which will be a major departure for him. Historically, Philadelphia has mostly kept Hurts in the gun, where he poses more of a run threat on option plays. Hurts hasn\u2019t been very productive on option keepers in recent seasons, but the threat that he\u2019ll pull the ball still opens up space for Saquon Barkley, who led the NFL in EPA on \u201cread option\u201d carries last season, per Sports Info Solutions. Mannion says that the Eagles will \u201clean into\u201d Hurts\u2019s rushing ability. That suggests Philly will still regularly line up in the gun since there are few concepts that get the quarterback involved in the run game from under center (outside of QB sneaks). The 28-year-old QB also showed up to camp looking notably leaner and quicker, which could make those option keepers more effective than they were a year ago. Among quarterbacks with at least 10 option keepers last season, Hurts had the lowest success rate, and only Bo Nix lost more EPA on those plays, per Sports Info Solutions. So there\u2019s a lot of room for improvement in that area, and a faster Hurts should be more capable of burning defenses that are keyed in on Barkley. It will be interesting to see how Mannion incorporates the QB run-option game into the modern West Coast offense. We\u2019ve seen coaches from the Shanahan-McVay tree use pistol as a middle ground between under center and shotgun formations, and if that does end up serving as a foundation for Philly\u2019s offense in 2026, we\u2019ll likely see it in the preseason, when teams work on their base concepts. Don\u2019t expect Mannion to reveal too much of his system this month, but we should get plenty of clues about how the Eagles offense will be structured when the regular season kicks off\u2014which could tell us how the rookie coordinator plans on using Hurts\u2019s legs.<\/p>\n
After 10 training-camp practices, it should come as little surprise that the Eagles\u2019 new offense under first-year coordinator Sean Mannion looks far more familiar to what\u2019s happening in Green Bay under Matt LaFleur than to the frequently cited Shanahan\/McVay roots. Mannion spent the previous two seasons on LaFleur\u2019s staff, most recently as quarterbacks coach in 2025, and the early installation in South Philly carries the clear fingerprints of that experience. Jalen Hurts is operating under center far more often than in recent seasons. Pre-snap motion appears on a high percentage of snaps. Play-action is a staple, and the run game has shifted toward wide-zone and stretch concepts rather than the more vertical, inside-zone-heavy approach associated with Jeff Stoutland.<\/p>\n
The second leap might come if Mannion has the goods as a coach. We don\u2019t know much about the former NFL backup quarterback who entered the coaching ranks in 2024. It might come if a new level is unlocked for Saquon Barkley in an under-center, wide zone rushing attack — that\u2019s new to the running back, just as the play-action fakes and intermediate middle throws are new to Hurts. It might come if sixth-year receiver DeVonta Smith emerges in a new system and out from Brown\u2019s shadow the way Jaxon Smith-Njigba did for Klint Kubiak\u2019s Seahawks last season after the trade of DK Metcalf. And of course, that leap might come if Hurts takes to the new offense quickly. I cannot think of a modern quarterback who has improved more over his career (college and pro combined) than Hurts. The player who took snaps at Alabama was, at first, not a functional thrower for the college ranks. The young starter for the Eagles was turnover prone, late to respond to pressure and easily fooled by blitz looks. Yet Hurts has become better season over season thanks in part to trimming those aspects of his game in which he struggled, such as intermediate throws. If he\u2019s able to introduce those back into his menu, now as a more seasoned veteran quarterback, he\u2019ll reach another level of quarterbacking. I came into training camp willing to go either way on the Eagles\u2019 new offensive experiment. But all reports out of camp so far have me leaning positively for 2026.<\/p>\n
Per multiple reports, Barkley appeared to tweak his left foot or ankle later in the session. Barkley\u2019s cleat came off as he was checked out by trainers and the shoe stayed off even as Barkley remained on the field.<\/p>\n
Usually, Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley are the ones giving out their autographs to fans at Training Camp. It\u2019s not every day that they ask for a fan\u2019s autograph \u2013 but that\u2019s what happened after Thursday\u2019s practice. Sam Okyere, a 12-year-old Eagles fan with sickle cell disease, made headlines this week for his Make-A-Wish request. Instead of going to Disney World, LEGOLAND, or hanging out with a celebrity, Sam used his wish to host a carnival for a homeless shelter in West Philly. Dubbed \u201cSam\u2019s Perfect Day,\u201d the carnival benefited Families Forward Philadelphia, a shelter that focuses on keeping families together as Sam wanted to help homeless children. One of the items on Sam\u2019s wish list that he passed on for the carnival was to meet Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, the Browns hosted 10 players for a tryout<\/a>, with defensive end Genard Avery, who has not played since a one-game appearance with the Indianapolis Colts in 2024, on the list. Today, it was time for another blast from the past as the Browns reportedly hosted free agent defensive end Za\u2019Darius Smith for a workout, according to NFL Network\u2019s Ian Rapoport. An 11-year veteran, Smith appeared in 25 games for the Browns, starting in 2023, before he was traded to the Detroit Lions midway through the 2024 season. Smith finished out that season with the Lions before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025, only to retire after just five games with Philadelphia.<\/p>\n

Lecitus Smith played his college ball at Virginia Tech and was a 6th-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. From there, he had stints with the Houston Texans, Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, and, most recently, with the Green Bay Packers again. Throughout his career, Smith has appeared in 19 games and has 4 career starts, including a start last season with the Packers.<\/p>\n
The Dallas Cowboys appear ready to play with their new toys. Only two days separate us from the preseason opener for the Cowboys, a Saturday night tilt on the west coast against the Seattle Seahawks. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Thursday that he expects the team\u2019s top two draft picks to see some action.<\/p>\n
A spokesman for Daniels told ESPN that the letter was sent largely sent because the school is allowing cornerback DJ Pickett to don the No. 5 jersey that Daniels wore during his two seasons at LSU (2022-23), including when he won the Heisman Trophy representing the school in 2023. Daniels\u2019 jersey was not retired by LSU, but it hadn\u2019t been worn by anyone since he left the school. \u201cThe Daniels family is deeply disappointed and feels profoundly disrespected by LSU\u2019s decision to give Jayden\u2019s number to another player,\u201d a statement from Daniels\u2019 spokesperson read, per ESPN. \u201cJayden and his family had every reason to believe that his number would remain a meaningful part of his LSU legacy and would be honored and protected in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the university.\u201d [BLG Note: Big Loser Energy here from Daniels.]<\/p>\n
The New York Giants made a series of moves on Thursday to bolster their depleted secondary. Those moves did not include the signing of controversial free-agent cornerback Terrion Arnold. The Giants released two recently-signed cornerbacks. D.J. James, who missed Wednesday\u2019s practice was waived\/injured. David Long was also waived with an injury settlement. Both of those players were signed on August 5, just eight days ago. In their place, the Giants signed defensive backs Ugochukwu Amadi and Sam Webb. [BLG Note: You may recall Ugo Amadi is a former Eagle.]<\/p>\n
The 2022 NFL Draft was an absolute mess. There were a lot of really amazing players, but the first round was full of busts, with teams totally mis-evaluating players in the process. This was a class that led to Kenny Pickett being take in the first round, it allowed the Ravens to get two Pro Bowlers in Kyle Hamilton and Tyler Linderbaum, and there were a total of 15 players selected in the first round who are either no longer with the team that picked them or out of the league. This means there is plenty of wiggle room for course correction. Today we\u2019re re-drafting the first round taking into consideration both the positions teams already picked, what they needed at the time, and who we now know became top NFL talents. Obviously this isn\u2019t a perfect process, because a variety of trades occurred in the first round that are too difficult to fully undo \u2014 so we\u2019re moving forward with the final draft order as it occurred in 2022.<\/p>\n

Although it appeared behind Graddy in a sharp, aggressive typeface, the mantra isn\u2019t merely for marketing purposes. It\u2019s a legitimate force driving the direction of the EA Sports American football department, and the reason why gameplay creative director Scott O\u2019Gallagher returned to EA after an extended stint overseeing the on-court action for the NBA 2K series. As O\u2019Gallagher — affectionately known as \u201cOG\u201d inside EA\u2019s Orlando studio — sees it, football video games can\u2019t just resemble the sport, they have to truly play like it.<\/p>\n
