Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has always been an avid sports fan beyond the football field.<\/p>\n

While he\u2019s been spotted supporting teams from his home state of Texas\u2014like the Dallas Mavericks and his alma mater, Texas Tech\u2014he\u2019s also been a vocal supporter of the Kansas City Royals.\u00a0On Sunday night, Mahomes reacted to a major announcement from the Royals with excitement.<\/p>\n

The Royals, fresh off a 2024 playoff appearance, are currently 31-29 and sitting in fourth place in the AL Central. With the season in full swing, the team is set to receive a much-needed boost.<\/p>\n

According to ESPN\u2019s\u00a0Jeff Passan<\/a>, the Royals have officially announced the call-up of slugger Jac Caglianone\u2014the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft and the No. 10 prospect on MLB Pipeline. Caglianone has been tearing through the minor leagues, making a quick and impressive rise through the Royals\u2019 farm system.<\/p>\n

In just 50 games between Double-A and Triple-A, Caglianone is slashing .322\/.389\/.593 with 15 home runs and 56 RBIs\u2014an explosive start to his professional career.<\/p>\n

The announcement sparked an instant reaction from Mahomes, who shared his excitement on social media by retweeting the news with a popular GIF from The Office that says, \u201cOh my God! Okay, it\u2019s happening.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mahomes has always had baseball in his blood. His father, Patrick Mahomes Sr., was a Major League pitcher whose career spanned from 1992 to 2003. He played for several teams, including the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates. He also spent time playing professionally in Japan.<\/p>\n

As for Jac Caglianone, the Royals\u2019 newest call-up, he starred at the University of Florida as both a power-hitting infielder and a pitcher. While he was primarily used at first base, he also showed effectiveness on the mound for the Gators.<\/p>\n

Although it doesn’t appear the Royals plan to use him as a two-way player\u2014at least not right away\u2014Caglianone brings a much-needed spark to the lineup. He now joins a promising group that includes young superstar Bobby Witt Jr., slugger Vinnie Pasquantino, and veteran catcher Salvador Perez.<\/p>\n
