BALTIMORE \u2014 The Eagles kicked off their preseason on Saturday night against the Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium.<\/p>\n
They ended up losing 24-7, but that\u2019s not really what matters in the preseason. This is all about the game process and evaluation as we get closer to final cuts and Week 1. Next week, the Eagles will head to New England for two joint practices ahead of their second preseason game on Saturday night.<\/p>\n
For now, here\u2019s the latest stock up, stock down after the first preseason game:<\/p>\n
Stock up<\/p>\n
LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr.: Young Trot started the game next to Jihaad Campbell. Both of them played well in this game, but Campbell is the starter so it’s expected. Trotter represents a high-level backup. Trotter had a sack on a blitz and had a run stop in the first quarter. He ended up with a sack, 2 QB hits and 5 tackles.<\/p>\n
DT Ty Robinson: The 2025 fourth-round pick out of Nebraska got off to a slow start in training camp but has been gaining steam over the last week or so and kept it going against the Ravens with a sack in the first quarter. He beat 2025 third-round pick Emery Jones Jr. on the play. He also had a tackle in pursuit.<\/p>\n
QB Cole Payton: The Eagles\u2019 offense really struggled for most of the game but the rookie quarterback had some good moments with his legs and his arm. He hit Erik Ezukanma for a 6-yard touchdown pass on an off-schedule play late in the fourth quarter. He also had three rushes for 45 yards.<\/p>\n
OT Markel Bell: The massive third-round rookie didn\u2019t give up anything in pass protection and was a people-mover in the run game. It was a nice first game for him.<\/p>\n
OL Willie Lampkin: Lampkin played both center and guard in this game and acquitted himself well.<\/p>\n
OLB Josh Weru: The IPP program had a couple of pressures and a QB hit on his first few plays as an American football player. While Uar Bernard has gotten the headlines, Weru has performed well all summer and is pushing for a roster spot.<\/p>\n
S Marcus Epps: While Vic Fangio said during the week that the safety battle was ongoing, it\u2019s notable that Epps got starter treatment on Saturday night. He did not dress out, while Michael Carter II played.<\/p>\n
WR Dontayvion Wicks: The veteran receiver did not dress out for this game, a good sign he\u2019s considered to be a starter. Wicks has had a solid training camp and is probably going to be the WR2 to start the season, especially because Makai Lemon has missed a good chunk of time.<\/p>\n
Stock down<\/p>\n
The offensive backups: Sure, the starters didn\u2019t play and the game plan was extremely vanilla. But you\u2019d like to see at least a little life out of the Eagles\u2019 offensive backups. They could barely get anything going in this game. They had too many penalties and played far too sloppy.<\/p>\n
QB Andy Dalton: The good news for Dalton is that he was ahead of Tanner McKee and started the game. But he completed 3 of 6 passes for 20 yards. He was victimized by a drop from Darius Cooper but he was also lucky that a low pass actually hit the ground and wasn\u2019t returned for a pick-6. You\u2019d expect a long-time veteran to look a little crisper in this game.<\/p>\n
QB Tanner McKee: Well, McKee wasn\u2019t very good either. He completed 6 of 10 passes for 35 yards and had a passer rating of 66.7. McKee had some opportunities and just missed some throws. It\u2019ll be interesting to see if McKee gets the start next Saturday in New England. That might be the case.<\/p>\n
OT Myles Hinton: The second-year OL was called for a hole early in the fourth quarter that killed the first Cole Payton drive. It\u2019s probably not a good sign for Hinton that he is now buried on the depth chart as a third-team LT after previously getting guard reps early in training camp.<\/p>\n
TE Eli Stowers: The rookie tight end started the game with a hold on his very first play. He ended up having three catches for 12 yards but two of them came at the end of the first half when the defense was playing prevent. Stowers also struggled a bit to get his nose in some plays to block.<\/p>\n
WR Johnny Wilson: The 6-foot-6 receiver returned from a knee injury late in the practice week but was unable to play in this game. This would have been a big chance for him to make a strong impression.<\/p>\n
WR Makai Lemon, S Cole Wisniewski, OLB Keyshawn James-Newby: These three Eagles rookies are injured and were not able to play in the preseason opener. While Lemon (hamstring) obviously isn\u2019t in danger of getting cut, he\u2019s missing opportunities to earn playing time this offseason. Meanwhile, both seventh-round picks \u2014 Wisniewski (hamstring) and James-Newby (ankle) \u2014 have missed significant practice time and now a preseason game.
