Update: Since this article went up on the same day Cody Ford was released by the team<\/a>, we\u2019re making a change to our latest projection. We removed Ford from the offensive line and replaced him with Javon Foster, who had a nice preseason outing against the Bears \u2014 his 73.5 run-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus<\/a> led all Bengals offensive linemen as he played both left and right tackle \u2014 and he was the backup left tackle in Monday\u2019s practice.<\/p>\n

\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n

Preseason Week 2 is in the books, and the Cincinnati Bengals<\/a> are 2-0 (not that it really means anything). They handily defeated the Bears \u2014 who played their starters for a short period of time while the Bengals didn\u2019t \u2014 by a score of 27-9.<\/p>\n

The Bengals\u2019 defense kept the Bears out of the end zone throughout the entire game, and both Josh Johnson and Sean Clifford were able to move the ball down the field.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s where I think things stand for the 53-man roster after Week 2 of the preseason.<\/p>\n

Cut: Sean Clifford, Josh Johnson<\/p>\n

Cut: Gary Brightwell, Kentrell Bullock, Jamal Haynes, Kendall Milton<\/p>\n

Notes: No changes, though I still think this is a sneaky position where the Bengals could add some depth\/talent in free agency.<\/p>\n

Cut: Xavier Johnson, Charlie Jones, Jordan Moore, Noah Thomas, Ke\u2019Shawn Williams, Kendrick Pryor<\/p>\n

Notes: Let\u2019s get this out of the way: Chase, Higgins, and Iosivas are on the roster.<\/p>\n

I cannot, however, justify keeping Jones on if it means that Meyers, Tinsley, or Young get cut. The Bengals aren\u2019t going with seven wide receivers, so Chuck Sizzle is out.<\/p>\n

Notes: Four or five? That is the question. For now, I\u2019m sticking with four.<\/p>\n

Hudson is the hard cut here. He has the trust of both quarterbacks and coaches, but there are only so many mouths to feed.<\/p>\n

Notes: The Bengals\u2019 starting line didn\u2019t play and is set. The backup offensive linemen weren\u2019t awe-inspiring on Saturday night. Cody Ford struggled badly, and he seemed like he\u2019d be the first lineman off the bench (outside of center) at the beginning of the season.<\/p>\n

I hope the Bengals will be looking at backup linemen who are available when cuts are made around the league. Maybe they could trade for a swing tackle.<\/p>\n

Update: Ford was released on Monday.<\/p>\n

Notes: Hill has been cleared to practice and is going to be on the active roster. If I took anything away from Saturday\u2019s game, it\u2019s that Robinson will not only make this team, but he might push for some meaningful snaps in a very deep defensive tackle rotation. This is bad news for Jackson, Cross, and Jefferson.<\/p>\n

The defensive line has gone from a position of weakness to great strength in just one offseason.<\/p>\n
