Broncos All-Pro kick returner and big-play specialist Marvin Mims Jr. received his first preseason action of the summer last night. Unfortunately, his night would not last long after he suffered an apparent lower-body injury in the opening series. He was down in pain for a bit before jogging off the field. However, he did have a limp and was seen visibly angry on the sideline before heading to the locker room with a trainer. His night was done, and his preseason was limited to just a handful of plays.<\/p>\n
This raised concerns about the Broncos\u2019 playmaking receiver\/returner, but after the game, Head Coach Sean Payton gave a positive update on Mims\u2019 health. He told reporters that \u201cMims is going to be fine\u201d and that he is simply dealing with a bruise.<\/p>\n
Mims, who started out camp hot and was making plays early on, suffered what was called a \u201csoft tissue injury,\u201d and it sidelined him for the majority of training camp and, outside of a few snaps last night, the vast majority of the preseason. Now, he is dealing with a bruised foot, but thankfully, according to Payton, it seems like a minor injury.<\/p>\n
The good news for Mims and the Broncos is that they do not play their next game until September 14th, when they head to Arrowhead on Monday Night to take on the returning Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. This gives Mims plenty of time to heal up and be ready for the Broncos\u2019 big opening-night matchup vs. their divisional rivals on the road.<\/p>\n
This is a big year for Marvin Mims. He is entering the final year of his rookie deal and will be a free agent at the end of the year. A productive contract year could make him one of the more sought-after players on the free-agent market and could lead to him receiving a big contract. It remains to be seen if the Broncos will attempt to re-sign their All-Pro returner, but we will see how things work out for Mims as the season progresses.<\/p>\n
