Three players from the Steelers\u2019 2023 draft class received big-money extensions from the team this offseason.<\/p>\n
Not among that group was arguably the best player in that Pittsburgh draft class: cornerback Joey Porter Jr., who didn\u2019t practice over the summer while on the Physically Unable to Perform list with a reported back injury \u2014 and while hoping for a new contract himself in a competitive cornerback market.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the media after his first practice since being activated from the PUP list on Sunday, Porter said he \u201cdidn\u2019t know\u201d when asked if he would play Week 1 without a new contract, when Pittsburgh will open the season against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 13.<\/p>\n
\u201dI have to talk to the guys upstairs, my agents about that one,\u201d he said, according to ESPN\u2019s Brooke Pryor<\/a>.<\/p>\n At a different point, when asked if he would play if healthy, Porter responded, \u201cYeah, for sure\u2026 maybe,\u201d according to The Athletic\u2019s Mike DeFabo<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201dI really can\u2019t speak much to the future, but today, I was out there today, running with the guys,\u201d Porter said via Steelers Now\u2019s Alan Saunders<\/a>. \u201cStill trying to get back fully.\u201d<\/p>\n
