Josh Sweat is a good player on a bad team, which means he will be the subject of trade rumors for the next few months. A former fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft<\/a>, the Florida State product originally entered the league with the Philadelphia Eagles and spent his early years in a reserve role. However, he finally established himself as a starter in 2021 and turned himself into one of the league\u2019s better edge defenders. A one-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, Sweat has recorded at least 6.5 sacks in each of the past five seasons and is coming off arguably the best year of his career.<\/p>\n

Starting and appearing in 17 games for a bad Arizona Cardinals team, Josh Sweat finished the season with 12 sacks, 30 tackles, 13 tackles-for-loss, 17 quarterback hits, four forced fumbles, and a 74.2 PFF grade, the 31st-best mark out of 119 eligible players. While the Cardinals themselves had a disappointing season, Sweat had a strong campaign and was probably the team\u2019s best defender.<\/p>\n

Now entering his age-29 season, Josh Sweat is still a good player, but is likely closer to the end of his career than the beginning. While rebuilding teams like the Arizona Cardinals tend to trade players like Josh Sweat at this point in their careers, ESPN\u2019s Dan Graziano<\/a> reports the team has told teams they\u2019re not trading the pass rusher, and Green Bay Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst<\/a> said that \u201csomebody\u2019s making stuff up,\u201d regarding rumors of the Packers pursuit of the pass rusher.<\/p>\n

\nCardinals Don\u2019t Want to Trade Josh Sweat\u2026Yet<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s start with a disclaimer: the Arizona Cardinals will not trade Josh Sweat until they are out of the playoff picture. However, that shouldn\u2019t take too long. While the NFL is unpredictable and anything can happen on any given Sunday, it\u2019s hard to envision a world where the 2026 Arizona Cardinals are not one of the worst teams in the league. Arizona has one of the worst quarterback rooms in football, the offensive line is unremarkable, and the defense lacks high-end playmakers.<\/p>\n

With this in mind, the Arizona Cardinals will almost certainly be sellers at the trade deadline, and Josh Sweat is one of the most valuable assets the team has.
