QB Mayfield, Buccaneers agree to long-term extension before Week 1 vs. Bengals<\/p>\n

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and quarterback Baker Mayfield have agreed to a long-term contract extension just days before the team travels to Cincinnati to face the Bengals.<\/p>\n

Mayfield and Tampa Bay agreed to a new four-year contract, including a three-year extension. According to NFL insiders Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport, the deal will pay Mayfield $165 million over the three years.<\/p>\n

Mayfield now becomes the highest-paid player in Tampa Bay history and is locked in with the Buccaneers through 2029.<\/p>\n

Mayfield, 31, has been Tampa Bay\u2019s starter over the last three seasons, starting every game under center. He\u2019s tossed 95 touchdown passes and 37 interceptions over that timeframe and made the Pro Bowl in 2023 and \u201924.<\/p>\n

The extension comes after an offseason of negotiations between Mayfield and the Buccaneers, which appeared to hit a stalemate at one point this summer before the deal was completed just five days before the team\u2019s Week 1 game against the Bengals at Paycor Stadium.<\/p>\n

Tampa Bay will come into Cincinnati after finishing last season at 8-9, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2019.<\/p>\n
