NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – LSU\u2019s possible expulsion from the SEC is likely off the table, according to a Yahoo Sports report. The university could still face other penalties.<\/p>\n
SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey told member schools a meeting Thursday would have what he called a revised agenda. The SEC\u2019s associate commissioner would not confirm the agenda to Fox 8.<\/p>\n
Attorney weighs in on SEC-LSU dispute<\/p>\n
Metairie-based attorney and sports agent Dante Cortello believes cooler heads prevailed and both parties value each other as members of the SEC.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe hope for LSU fans is that there are no additional penalties whether its suspensions or this or that,\u201d Cortello said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether that means all of the litigation goes away, I\u2019m unsure on what avenues each party wants to continue to pursue or if they say okay we\u2019re at the point where we want it to be. Everybody act appropriately moving forward and there won\u2019t be anymore litigation,\u201d Cortello said.<\/p>\n
Former recruits may sue over NIL money<\/p>\n
Cortello says former NFL recruits Daequan Wright and Zxavian Harris may sue for potential lost NIL money because LSU did not add them to its roster.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether it\u2019s NCAA, SEC, possibly LSU, any of those parties that they relied on or thought that made it not possible for them to continue playing college football,\u201d Cortello said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate that they find themselves in this predicament, in this situation where they\u2019re not on a college or a pro football roster and they have to figure out the best path for them to move forward,\u201d Cortello said.<\/p>\n
Comparisons to other NCAA eligibility cases<\/p>\n
Matt Moscona of 104.5 ESPN Baton Rouge and LouisianaSports.Net says it\u2019s common for athletes to sue when eligibility concerns surface.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe NCAA is currently fighting more than 60 lawsuits and over 300 athletes on these eligibility cases. It\u2019s the inability to have a black and white rule and apply it appropriately,\u201d Moscona said.<\/p>\n
Moscona says the SEC fight with LSU might test whether the conference can govern itself without NCAA oversight.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe they\u2019re trying to make an example out of LSU to prove the self-governance model could work,\u201d Moscona said.<\/p>\n
Cortello hopes the battle shifts from the courtroom back to the gridiron and any uncertainty about LSU\u2019s fate is put to rest.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow, it\u2019s time to play ball and put the best product on the field for both LSU and the SEC,\u201d Cortello said.<\/p>\n
