Linebacker Jonathan Greenard<\/a> was a major addition for the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> over the offseason, but it remains to be seen if we\u2019ll see him out on the field when the Eagles open the 2026 season against the Washington Commanders<\/a>.<\/p>\n Greenard was sidelined for the entirety of training camp and the preseason due to a pectoral injury and his status for Week 1 hasn\u2019t been announced. While speaking with the media ahead of the game, Greenard provided an update<\/a> on his status.<\/p>\n Jonathan Greenard Said He\u2019s \u2018Close\u2019 to Return From Pectoral Injury<\/p>\n \n While Greenard was non-committal regarding his status for the season opener against Washington, he expressed optimism about where he is physically and that he won\u2019t be on the sideline for long.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s up to them,\u201d Greenard replied when asked if he was going to play in Week 1. \u201cI\u2019m literally just trying to work day by day, every second just trying to show what I can do, and that\u2019s up to them. But I feel pretty solid. \u2026 I feel good. I\u2019m in a good spot. I know that I\u2019m working every day to try to get this thing stronger and we\u2019re close, I know that.\u201d<\/p>\n Ultimately, Greenard plans to listen to his body, and his trainers, when it comes to his return to action.<\/p>\n \u201cI could feel good doing a couple reps, and then you may feel a little something,\u201d Greenard said. \u201cBut, it\u2019s a marathon. So as much as I\u2019m ready to get out there, I just got to listen to the body, listen to the training staff, and I\u2019ll know when it\u2019s time.\u201d<\/p>\n While it would be nice to have Greenard on the field for the first game, he shouldn\u2019t rush it if he isn\u2019t feeling close to 100 percent. It\u2019s a long season, after all.<\/p>\n Vic Fangio Provides Update on Jonathan Greenard<\/p>\n \n Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio previously provided an update on Greenard, saying that he would be cautious with the former Pro Bowler given his lack of practice time leading up to the season.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s day by day. He hasn\u2019t practiced a whole lot yet,\u201d Fangio said. \u201cSo, we\u2019ll be careful with that. \u2026 There\u2019s a minimal amount of practice, real practice, that you have to go through, especially for a guy coming off of an injury.\u201d<\/p>\n An official determination of Greenard\u2019s status for Philadelphia\u2019s Week 1 game against Washington will be provided prior to kickoff.<\/p>\n \n\t\t\tMichael Kaskey-Blomain<\/a> Michael Kaskey-Blomain is an experienced sports media member covering the NBA and NFL for Heavy.
