METAIRIE, La. (AP) \u2014 Saints running back Alvin Kamara returned to practice this week for the first time since injuring his knee during practice on Aug. 18, but is listed as questionable for Sunday\u2019s season opener against the Detroit Lions.<\/p>\n
Coach Kellen Moore ruled out veteran defensive end Cameron Jordan (hamstring) for Sunday\u2019s game at Ford Field. The noon game can be seen on Fox 8. Coverage starts at 10 a.m. with the Fox 8 Live Tailgate.<\/p>\n
While Kamara\u2019s chances of playing this weekend remain unclear after he was limited in practice, his presence on the field raised the prospect of the 10-year veteran returning soon.<\/p>\n
\u201cGood to get him back out there,\u201d Moore said. \u201cHe did some good things. Any time you\u2019re going through injury stuff, you\u2019ve got see how things respond and then we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n
Saints\u2019 Kamara expected to be sidelined at least a month with knee sprain, report says<\/a><\/p>\n Kamara is not projected to be New Orleans\u2019 primary running back this season, but said he was OK with that when he agreed to take a pay cut to remain with the club<\/a> for his final season under contract.<\/p>\n When free agency began in March, the Saints signed former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne<\/a> to a four-year, $48 million contract, effectively designating him the starter.<\/p>\n When Kamara agreed to return, the Saints spoke of the importance of having a rotation of two proven, versatile running backs who also can contribute as receivers out of the backfield.<\/p>\n Quarterback Tyler Shough called Kamara\u2019s presence at practice a \u201chuge\u201d development.<\/p>\n \u201cHe shows up to practice today and I\u2019m like, \u2018Looks like nothing\u2019s happened. He hasn\u2019t missed a step,\u2019\u201d Shough said. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be big for us, just because it brings so much variety to our offense. It brings so many different elements. So, having him and Trav back there, it\u2019s really dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n Jordan\u2019s timeline is unclear. He has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since early August. But the Saints elected not to put him on injured reserve, meaning \u201cthere\u2019s potential,\u201d Moore said, that the 37-year-old defensive end could return by Week 4.<\/p>\n Jordan is \u201cgoing to do everything possible to play\u201d soon, Moore said. \u201cHe\u2019s progressing well.
