According to NHL Insider Larry Brooks of the New York Post, the New York Rangers haven’t qualified two RFAs in a surprising turn of events. GM Chris Drury decided not to tender qualifying offers to either forward Arthur Kaliyev or defenseman Zac Jones.

The New York Rangers have made the shocking decision not to extend a qualifying offer to either Arthur Kaliyev, a waiver claim from Los Angeles, or defenseman Zac Jones.

Zac Jones had made headlines earlier in the year with his statement of frustration with the team and the lack of time needed on the ice to prove himself to the team. He would find himself playing on the ice later in the year, but it apparently wasn’t good enough.

Jones would play 46 games this season and score 11 points (1-10).

Jones is now a free agent and can take his talents elsewhere to find a new home in the NHL.

His last contract paid him $812K AAV over the last two seasons, and now he has UFA status.

Kaliyev has found himself in a similar situation here in New York as he did in Los Angeles. Though this time his opportunity was limited, and he wasn’t able to find himself a new home after all of his efforts in January.

In 14 games for the Blueshirts, Kaliyev would score 4 points (1-3) and didn’t have what it takes to make the cut in New York.

Kaliyev’s last cap hit paid him an AAV of $825K over the last year, and he will hit free agency in 2025 as a UFA also.
