BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Viera Company was honored to sponsor the recent 3v3 Summer Sled Hockey Challenge fundraiser at the Space Coast Iceplex in support of Space Coast Sled Hockey—an incredible 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides individuals with disabilities the chance to play the fast-paced, competitive, and inspiring sport of sled hockey right here on Florida’s Space Coast.

Sled Hockey is an adaptive sport for individuals who are unable to play traditional hockey.  The players are single and double amputees and paraplegics.

Sled Hockey is an adaptive sport for individuals who are unable to play traditional hockey.  The players are single and double amputees and paraplegics.

They are disabled veterans, adults who’ve suffered car and motorcycle accidents, and those with birth defects like spina bifida, autism, and MS. Players come primarily from Brevard County, with some coming from Orange, Seminole, and Indian River Counties.

Space Coast Sled Hockey has raised and developed seven Team USA sled hockey players.  Current USA Team members and World Champions Brett Bolton and Chris Douglas, former Team USA and 2-time Paralympic Gold Medalist Greg Shaw, and former USA Women’s Development Team Karina Villegas.

The organization also has two current men’s development team players, Sean Gallagher and Nicholas Witowski, and a current women’s development team member, Madeleine Gallagher, who won gold in the 2022 women’s world championship.
