The Nashville Predators have traded center Colton Sissons and defenseman Jeremy Lauzon to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for defenseman Nicolas Hague and a conditional 2027 third-round pick, the Predators announced on Monday.
As part of the transaction, the Predators are retaining 50% of the remainder of Sissons’ contract, a total of $1.4 million, which runs through 2025-26. Lauzon’s full contract, a total of $2 million for 2025-26, will move to Vegas.
The condition on the 2027 third-round pick says it becomes a 2027 second-round pick if the Golden Knights win at least two rounds in the 2026 playoffs.
In the deal, the Predators acquire Hague, a 26-year-old left-handed defenseman. He is a restricted free agent coming off a three-year, $6.8 million contract with Vegas, but the Predators immediately signed him to a four-year, $22 million deal to keep him in Nashville through 2028-29.
Hague is a 6-foot-6, 245-pound defenseman who scored five goals and seven assists in 68 games with the Golden Knights last season. Since being drafted in the second round by Vegas in 2017, Hague has 20 goals and 63 assists in 364 career games.
By acquiring Hague, the Predators get younger on the back end. By trading Sissons, they open up some cap space to sign Hague to an extension, clearing approximately $3.4 million in cap space for 2025-26 to do so.
Hague joins a crowded left-handed defenseman roster on the Predators, including Roman Josi, Brady Skjei, Adam Wilsby, Jordan Oesterle, and Andreas Englund.
Sissons, 31, has played 11 seasons with the Predators since being drafted in the second round in 2012. He has 95 goals and 126 assists in 690 games as a defense-first center. The highlight of his Predators’ career was scoring a hat trick in the series clinching victory over the Anaheim Ducks in the Western Conference Final in 2017.
Lauzon has played 187 games with Nashville since acquired via trade with Seattle in 2021. A heavy-hitting defenseman, Lauzon has 14 goals and 31 assists in 316 career games.
By retaining Sissons’ salary, the Predators now have one open salary retention spot. Teams are allowed to retain up to three salaries at once, and Nashville is already retaining part of Mattias Ekholm’s salary after trading him to Edmonton in 2023.
